Is there in quality differences between the FPK that Atlantic sales, the PSL 54c, the SSG-97, or Romack? Are they just imported by different companies? Thanks for any info you may have.

Romak III are the early Century Arms imports.  SSG-97 are IO, Inc imports.  PSL54C is the current Century import.  There are some inconsistencies in what you get.  It may or may not have a bayonet lug...if there is a lug most likely the ears will have been cut off.  Some have a removable muzzle brake while others may be pinned and/or welded.  FPK's are kits built with Romanian parts on US receivers by Tennessee guns.

The Romanian built guns seem to be more sought after if only because they say "Made in Cugir, Romania" on the receiver instead of "Knox Tennessee."  All of the Romanian examples are originally imported by Century Arms.  Quality can be spotty with both, but the Romanian guns seem to have less issues overall.  Many TN Guns Rifles regularly have out of spec scope rails as some haven't had the rail final machined causing scope mounting and sight-in issues.

Other common issues with both are poor furniture, poor finish, and canted front sights. Less common issues are out of spec bolt rails, improperly installed triggers, excessive headspace, and missing bolt hold-opens.  Accuracy seems to be hit or miss but most seem to shoot quite well.  Some people will buy 2 or 3, keep the best and sell the rest.

That's all I can remember at this time.

ETA:
The TN Gun builds have "FPK DRAGUNOV" etched on the receiver which really irks me.

Thanks Rick.

I read a post somewhere that Atlantic said there FPK's were made in Romania at same plant as the rest and are not parts kits assembled in USA. I will check at those links and do a little more reading.

Thanks again

Morning Rick,

I picked up a Century PSL in February.  Pinned muzzle brake.  Everything seems "correct".  A hoot-to-shoot ! ! !

Thanks for the post -- lots of good information . . . .

Yes.  Supposedly the current FPK stock is Romanian made.  They really shouldn't have given them the same name as the US parts guns.

I purchased a Romanian(made in CUGIR) PSL.  Im happy with the manufacturing and the wood furniture is pretty decent looking.  The muzzle break does screw off.  However the optics are killing me.  The scope that came with it was missing pieces and screws out of the mount.  Because of this I cant speak about the accuracy.

I posted a question in the optics forum about where I could find a decent US made weaver mount for the PSL.  Anybody?

US made?  Never heard of one.
IOR Valdada makes the only truly quality weaver mount.

I bought one from Atlantic a few months ago and am happy with it.  I have no idea where it was built, and I don't give a rip.  I shoot it so function over origin is important to ME.

Have fun!
