Why are these rifles put down by most of the AK community?  Did I buy a bad rifle or is it worth the money?  Im new to the AK's but wanted a heavy hitn round compared to my Colt AR's.  I think the AK's are ugly but after a few days its growing on me and Im thinking of buying another AK but unsure if it should be the same brand or different such as the Saiga.

Ill listen to your valid opinions!

Well I can put in my .02, I was skeptical at first. I have dumped piles of money into AR type weapons, until now that’s all I had. I was at the gun store last week and the guy talked me into buying a WASR 10 it was the last one he had. I was thinking upcoming election, maybe a weapons ban on  assault weapons ahhh what the hell. When I got it home it was full of metal shavings and jammed packed with grease. I was thinking what the hell have I blown my money on. I just went to shoot it today, and I must say I was overly impressed to say the least. I loaded the mag full and tried my hardest to make that thing jam….nope all bullets went down range as fast as I could make em… I must concede!!!! as far as price, reliability, and ease of maintenance/use, and shear power….it’s the best assault weapon ever made. I have heard that many times but now im sold.        I would hate like hell to face that dam thing on the battle field!

I've got 3 WASR's and NEVER had any problems, I also have 3 Saiga rifles that are trouble free.  - It seems to me that your chances of having problems with a new WASR are greater than with a new Saiga, based on the posts I've seen here, ie: canted sights, magwell opening ect.  -   All I know is that I'm happy with my WASR's, I did'nt pay much for them, they work well for what I do with them and now with the cheap 5.45x39 ammo, what more could I want??  Life is good!! - JMHO

I have a 2003 wasr 10. this was one of the dreaded century arms machinist monkeys wonder guns. Luckly it didnt have canted sights. But the mag well work was awful (this is why linx310 created his website).I did the magwell clean up with a dremel and a flat file (again thanx linx310 for your info site). After getting all the cosmo (and the free leftover shavings from the monkey machinists is when i did my grinding then recleaned it again. It is a real bullet burner and not bad when it comes to accuracy. It came with one 20rd and one 30rd mag and i purchased a 75rd romy drum for it ( go to the magazine section and read "new owners of romy drums" and take note of what is posted). I did have to file on the rear drum post that is held by the mag release lever. The drum would go in,,,,,,but refused to come out.so i did some file work on the drums rear post and it fits fine now. I need to get the G2 double hook FCG for it and cut a small slot for the 2nd hook. I cut the weld of the muzzle nut and removed the nut..only to find a smooth barrel that has been turned down to 1/2 inch. I am going to get the AK74 type break for it from bushmaster,,,bore the center out for the 7.62 round and attach it to my barrel via Mig welder (if the barrel is too thin for 1/2X28 threads). I have the Romy side fold stock on it now and the ak74 brake will match the look of the rifle.

On a side note: I have a late model Wasr-10 underfolder on layaway and it already has the G2  single hook FCG in it. I will pay this thing off very soon.I (and others) are worried after the next election,,,The blue meanies might stop importation of these "Wonder Guns" (AK's) and possibly the ammo too. So i will stock up on ammo and have enough to last the rest of my life (i'm 56) and there will be enough ammo left for my family to fight over after my funeral ROFLMAO !!!!!.........Tom

UPDATE : The underfolder is now home and awaiting a good cleaning and oiling (Big Evil Grin)

I drilled a hole underneath a USA slant break and threaded it for a set screw.  JBWelded and set screwed that thing on.  Also had to cut a little less than 1/8" off the barrel because it was too long in front of the FSB for the slant brake to fit snug.  Re-crowned it with a brass bolt and some valve grinding compound.  Came out great!

I may just go ahead and weld it on with my mig though... haven't decided.

Cool !  One little bead underneath won't be seen and will remove all doubts about it flying off.....

Was this barrel threaded?
If not, what diameter is it? 1/2 inch?

You have the plastic fore grips on yours. My new underfolder has the same. The machine work seems to be way better than my 2003 wasr with blonde wood fore grips.I haven't had time to clean mine up yet,,,but no visible metal shavings are seen (my 2003 wasr looked awful, shavings all over inside)..I will report back, when i get time to clean, lube and test fire my new one....Tom
