Any AKT-98/WASR 22 /RPK 22 owners remove ejector /extractor & spring from bolt who could share how to do this ? I'm interested in stretching the spring or replacing it with a similar spring from a 10/22 ...

I just got 2 WASR .22's the other day. I Got them to pursue the possibility of building a high cap mag for it. After shooting the gun a looking it over along with the 10 rd. mag that came with it ,I think this is a nice outfit. Question is how many of these are out there and would it be worth my while to develope the mag? Its do-able and for any of you that know my other mag products you know we can do this.

As you now know - 10rds thru those little beasties is NOWHERE near enuff!

Put it this way, if you can come up with a repeatable, dependable, 25-30rd mag, I will be in for at least 3. If you can hide them inside AK mag "shells", so much the better.

You will have MANY clients!  AFAIK, the mag-limits in many non-US states, like NY or the PRCali, do not apply to rimfires.

Production numbers seem to indicate (AKT-98 1000 TO 1500 UNITS) (WASR 22 2000 TO 2500 UNITS) (RPK 22  500 to 750 UNITS)  these my vary slightly ! I took a Eastern European 30 round AK mag and put the Cugir plastic 10 round mag insert into the 30 round mag body (With some grinding and material removal on both but the Insert will still function in the Cugir plastc mag body if need be) and I installed a "Ribbed" eastern european top cover,Romanian Laminat "Take off" Military buttstock with trapdoor for AKM toolkit that came with WASR,A BLACK plastic YUGO M70 pistol grip,Bulgarian grip screw&nut, plugged the empty gas system with a hard rubber plug to keep empties from rattling around in there, and instaled a Soviet LATE 70'S AKM sling, and picked up a Romanian Mag pouch for my 2 spare 10/30 ROUND METAL AKT-98 MAGAZINES from SOG (AKMT22 magazine @19.95 each) and a Romanian Bayonet !

You will be a Hero (I have asked Murrays (Ben the Spring SKS firing pin guy) and Tapco also via pleading posts at Forum/boards to make Romanian rimfire AK magazines and so far you are the first to explore this . Please go ahead and undertake this project (You will be glad you did) Rimfires are the wave of the Future with these Romanian AK Rimfires, the GSG 5 .22 and the Carbon 15 22lr, Stg44/MP44 clone in .22lr ... and as you see I purchased 2 of the AKT-98 mags from Southern Ohio Gun and would get at least 2 of your future mags especially if  you should consider a 10/30 (For us California guys)

Please make some. I don't know if you remember me on the full size ciener threads. (I got to be a beta tester and had made my own fullsize already) I even mentioned to you then about making some for the AKT98 and wasr22(same gun). How do I beg grovel and plead online? The "factory" mags suck. The wasr looks like crap and while the akt looks better (plastic insert in a weiger) most don't function for crap.

We really need a good fullsize looking one that WORKS! I know your ciener ones run like a champ as I have a small pile of them. I'd love to have my AKT function even close to my AR without the mag caused problems.

There are plenty of threads on here and other boards about these guns with the price of ammo these days, so they are out there.

Will pretty please work?  LOL
(PS..............can I be a tester again?)

Whats the AKT? Im new with this gun and dont know of any other variations. I only know that I shot it and it felt good enough to pursue making a mag. Im going to the shot show in the morning and will talk with Century Arms about this prospect.

BDM I IMed you some links to wasr 22/ AKT98 threads. They are pretty much the same gun with different furniture.

I think SOG imported the AKT's and century the wasr's.

I think quality mags of any capacity for the AKT98 or WASR22 would be a good seller.

I bought a AKT98 a couple of years ago for my son.

What a disappointment.

The rifle was damn accurate and functioned the way it should have, but the mag. was shit. The 3 extra mags I bought for it from S.O.G. were also shit.

My boy (then 6) told me "this gun is junkie".  I sold it and got him a 10/22 youth.

Make the mags. Blackdog.

Too bad you sold his gun ( real AK IN Rimfire) they are going to become  Highly prized collectors Items (And they are really really fun for AK people who like tinkering and have lotsa spare furniture and Accessories! (Like a Barbie AK that you can dress upwith an sidefolder or plum furniture and play with until you tire of that look then go with the plastic East Gernan stuff or a mak 9o stock ...

Let me know if Century verified my Production /Import #'s(Ammounts of Rimfire AK's imported) on these weapons ! And I would not tell every body your going to make these mags (They could run with your Idea ) The RPK 22 is Just That (An RPK in Rimfire) and AKT-98 was an Earlier Rimfire Romanian AK with marginal black plastic furniture and FTF/FTE issues in some units and larger magwell than WASR ... dID YOU GET MY pm ON MY 10/30 ROUND eastern european steel ak mag mods from 7.62 to .22 lr ?

Please make these. In all honesty I dont think mags for this rifle will be your best seller but I'll buy at least 5 maybe 10. I shot my ATK 98 the other day and it funtions perfect with the exception of the mags which are utter complete garbage. These rifles are very accurate the only thing holding them back is there mags. Please make these!

Build these mags and I'll buy a few.  These rifles are great, and should be in the safe of anyone owning an AK.

I'm deployed right now, but I told my brother to pick up a WASR 22 for me, and it's there waiting for me when I get back.  Would definately purchase some full size mags....  I hope you make em!

If you make these, make them to resemble a bakelite/polymer '74 mag.  That's the dimension for the stock mag well on these rifles.  No ribbing on them, just a plain, slick magazine.  Black would be good, a rust color would be great!

I think I have a PM from D9000 on another board that he already made one last spring. I have been working on one this winter, and while it is not quite 100% like the oem mags run, it is still a nice upgrade using a BDM Ceiner mag inside a 74 mag.

Once you get Inserts figured out for a Production run , you can offer various different Mag body varieties (Bakelite Replica) (10/10 Metal) (10/30 metal) (20/30 metal) (30/30 metal) and for the real AK purists (30/40 metal) ? and a 30/20 Tapco SKS mag looking knockoff ?

I have a AKT, The mags I have seem to feed fine but the extraction & ejection system leaves something to be desired. You can adj the extractor tension with the slotted plug on the bottom of the bolt, it has two positons.

The problem with mine is the extractor is too long and doesn't always hold the empty into/against the bolt face so the ejector can kick it out. I might just have to go Paki and make a new extractor..

30rd mags would be great.

Tangeant see if Century or Classic Arms will send you a WASR Extractor ? (And spring if you need that also ? It comes out like the 10/22 AND A 10/22 Spring might be worth looking into also ?)

I have had mine apart. Extractor spring tension is fine. I'll look into getting another extractor from century.

There is another plunger on the opposite end of extractor spring that detents into a oblong cam on the slotted plug that lets you adj the spring tension.

You mean the ecentric Adjustment screw on the bottom of the bolt ? (Allows quarter turn spring tension adjustment) I stake mine on strongest setting or use blue loctite ..,

Donkeyhaute,

Can you tell me about the AKT-98 mags that you modified?  You write 10/30 what to you mean by that?  Can you post pics showing you mods?

Thanks, I have a couple on order and want to see what I am in for.

You Buy the AKT-98 mas from SOG (Southern Ohio Gun) (AKMT22 mag @19.95 ea.) They do not need mods for AKT-98 (Only WASR 22's) and thats just Grinding the topside side tabs on each side of the mag until it fis WASR 22 magwell (Very easy) 10/30 IS 10 ROUND CAPACITY IN A 30 ROUND MAG BODY OR SHELL ! My pics are in a thread called  Rimfire AK madness...

Keep poking BDM to make proper AK hicaps....

You can hack your own, but for the cost of 2 mags and time, I'll stop at one.

I got my AKT-98 mags and they work great.  My mag well measured 0.945" and the mags were ~0.975- 1.0".  I pulled out my vise grips and set them to 0.940" and gave the mags a couple squeezes and voila, like a glove, no grinding necessary, and fit better than the factory mag.

Now I need to build some 30 rd mags.

cOOL ! (i TOOK THE iNSERT FROM THE PLASTIC cugir mag insert that came with weapon and put it in a steel Eastern European ribbed 30 rounder for a 10/30  !  (But you have to remove some meat from the outer insert shell to get it to fit around the curvature of the 30 round body ) not sure if the Vise grip trick woulda worked on my mags (But I woulda been skeerd that I woulda FUBAR one...
