I am not well versed in the subject of Norinco rifles...  but,

I have been offered a pre 89 type 84 underfolder. 223 cal w/bird cage and all factory accessories + 7 magazines.  No box.  Previous (and original) owner said 40 rounds down the tube.  My questions  to u would be approximate worth in todays market?  Also are these a reliable shooter worth adding to a new but expanding AK collection?  Will any 223 AK mag work in these?  I realy don't want to spend the extra cash right now as I have an ORF AK74 on order...  But if it will prove to be a good investment (I am rationalizing here)  I may move on it.  Any input from u guys will be greatly appreciated.  This AK game is proving as evil as the BRD.  Thanks in advance.

Edit to add: The magazines are 30's

Thank u to all who replied.

Yep...it's addicting as hell.  IMHO, it's a GREAT investment.  I'd love an 84.  It'd be a great addition to my Type 56.  Specifically, given the ammo shortage right now regarding 5.45x39.

I've seen several on the boards ranging from $600.00-$750.00, depending on condition, accessories, etc.

I'd say $600-$800 for the gun depending on condition and a bunch more for the mags, they aren't common.

Forget the ORF, get the Norinco, or else you will always wish you did.

84 underfolders I have seen for sale have been priced around $ 1000-1200 but they have been collecting gunshop dust. Fixed stocked 84s's seem to run $ 600-900 depending on condition. JMOP but the prices on Chinese AK's has been stagnant since the end of the ban probably due mostly to the fact they aren't the only game in town anymore. Still they are excellent AK's esp the 84's and if you can get it cheap ( an underfolder for lees than fixed stock model price ) go for it . I also have an 84s and it is a fun pleasent AK to shoot esp with cheap Wolf 223

Best to stick with the chinese 223 mags but some have had luck making others work. Are the 7 mags 30's or short 15-20 rounders ??

First it will be just as accurate as your AR but much more reliable. Second magazines can can be a variety of choices; modified 74 style with Robar followers, Weiger, some Bulgarian, and of course Norinco. I am not a fan though of underfolders, they are not comfortable to shoot and don't provide a good cheek weld. Overall the 84s is a nice rifle.

Now you went and done it,as accurate as your AR?  More reliable? A thousand yard shooter?

Sure you got it right there?
