The only thing that eludes me is why anybody would cut one up in the first place???

kinda pricey...ouch...

probably used as a donor gun durring the assault weapon ban (as a preban).   The reciever may have been used with some kit before 2004

I don't even like that stock.  It looks cheap.  Kindof like that pellet rifle

This gun might have been caught in Commie-fornia. There was a Valmet 71 kit from CA on gunbroker a few months back.

Maybe it was a post sample chopped up to sell to the public as a 'rare' kit?

Either way, i like the stock, and it doesnt look too complicated. They should make a US copy of it.

Maybe it was stolen, and cut up for the parts value.

The price may be a tad high, but those folders are tough to find.  I've never seen one in person, but they look pretty cool/sturdy.

take care,
Tec

In my opinion (you know what opinions are like) the red, plastic side folder is one of the ugliest peices of shit ever produced.  I thought the Chinks had their crap in order (back in the late 80's)until they came out with that.

Chinks, thats kinda harsh. You don't actually think white people are the only people that read this do you. How about a little respect for the other races here. Personally I wouldnt pay that when I've seen a couple of those complete guns bought for 350-500 this year.

Why no Chinese parts kits anyway? Were the Chinese parts banned from import along with the rifles?

It wont swell, warp or rot in harsh conditions of Asia like wood might...isnt that why some of our guns in vietnam in the beginning had problems?

Probably light and cheaper to mold plastic than shape and finish wood. Most likely done for mass production, not looks

It's Bakelite - not "plastic"

And I think they are cool

1994 import ban was put into affect against China. They're more restricted than Russia.

I purchased two of those red sidefolder kits from RPB back in 1995.  One to my brother and one for me.  I sent a MAK-90 to RPB in 1995 and they shortened up the barrel, pulled the gasblock back, and put a custom Krinkov muzzle break on it to make it 16.5 inches.  It was really nice and I let it go sometime in 2001.  My brother let his MAK-90 go with the red sidefolder kit sometime in 1997 to a friend of mine.  I checked with him last night and he still won't get off of it.

Here is an early pic and you can see the red sidefolder with the shortened barrel:

Johno knew how bad I wanted a red sidefolder again and he let me buy him out and take over his "Red China" project at InRange.  So sometime in the spring of next year, watch for Project Red China...My sincerest thanks to you Johno.

Thanks for posting the pic from ARS because it's exactly what it will look like!!

Hell, the kit is elusive and so is this thread!I came dragging in from work this morning and saw it in AK General Discussion,I figured I'd respond after a little sleep and then I could'nt find it!

No problem KF,I had been accumulating the parts for this project for well over a year,By the time I had it ready to start on,I also had several other kit projects going and I kinda lost my drive on this one.I'm still excited to see it completed, keep us posted!

That looks nice, congrats.

I have a '89 Polytech sidefold with the same furniture.

I bought mine new back in '89 before the import ban.

I've got the pellet gun,  I would love to find a rear trunion and install the stock on my Poly Tech AKS.  What was the price on it?  It did not show up on the link.
