| I do not know too much about these-i bought it from my local gun dealer and he said this was how he bought it. He was asking 1,695 and I offered him 1,300. i buy so many guns from him that he said he would only charge me 1,100. i still have not fired it but i think I will do it this weekend. Excited to give it a try. Do people ever put anyhing on AKs? like aimpoint? I have two LWRC rifles which i love. I ordered an LMT 308 but they (LMT) are so slow...Apparently filling a huge order for the British military right now. |

Congrats on the Chinese AK purchase.Looks like a rare PolyTech Galil type skeleton stock model.Does it say Poly Tech ,Beijing China? And th importer on the bottom of the receiver would say Kengs KFS Atlanta GA .
Check the link below and scroll down about halfway down the page to see what i think you have. http://chicom47.com/Pics/PolyTech/PolyTech.htm Polytech its the cream of the crop chinese ak rifles. You did good for $1100.the polytech's are very smooth actions and high quality controlled built.I would leave this rifle as is with no optics. Its a true rare classic. If you do change anything out, KEEP all the wood, parts, etc. The triggers are very good and get better the more they are shot. |

Thanks for the advice. I took some closer pictures and confirmed what you said. I am going to leave it alone as you said. It is good to know that I got a good one. Makes me feel better about paying 1,100 for a gun that originally cost less than half of that. I especially liked the side folder. Next is to find ammo that is better than the surplus corrosive stuff. http://lubbad.com/images/dsc00857.jpg http://lubbad.com/images/dsc00856.jpg http://lubbad.com/images/dsc00855.jpg http://lubbad.com/images/dsc00854.jpg http://lubbad.com/images/dsc00853.jpg http://lubbad.com/images/dsc00852.jpg http://lubbad.com/images/dsc00851.jpg |

Very nice PolyTech. Those dont come up for sale often and in that good of shape.Value is well over what you paid for it.
Get any brown bear, golden tiger,Uly,tula or wolf ammo for your non corrosive ammo. I have two polytech's myself and wont ever shoot corrosive ammo in one of my poly's.Save the corrosive ammo shooting to lower grade non collectable rifles. |

Watch this auction to see what today's value in the weak market will bring for a polytech exactly like yours. Its already over a grand with 5 days left.Gives you a good idea of how good a deal you got.

As I understand it, norinco and Poly both got guns from the same factories at times, and I don't see much of a difference between them, frankly, unless you are talking post ban late Maks, chinese, is chinese, is chinese.
That said, Kengs did try to class up the Polys and create a "Premium" market for the chinese AK's, with some variants, like yours, which is rare, I have never actually seen one in the flesh. On the inside, they all kind of look, act, and perform alike. I really doubt that Poly drafted better prison labor to build their guns, than Norinco, they just had them built to include more variety, I have a milled Legend, and the sights have a slight cant, and the trigger is nothing more special than just any AK trigger, which is not unlike any military two stage generic type. 1100 seem like a very good price, for that rare of a model, at first glance, I thought your dealer had an ace foldered rifle, and that he fucked you, while 1600ish is a bit high, 1300 at times has/is/will be a good price again. Don't beat the shit out of it, or add side mounts, etc, and it should retain value well, but I frankly would safe it, and find a cheap romanian one to blast with, especially if all you have is corrosive ammo, there is NO reason to use corrosive ammo in any rifle, with the exception of rare calibers. |

Oh, and CLEAN THAT GUNK OFF THE RIVET above the Poly Tech import stamp in the photo above, what the hell is wrong with you posing your gun in public with a gunky rivet Ha. Well said. I want to say I have two ARs which I paid 2300 plus for. They kick and and they are loud and they are fussy. I went up north Wisconsin this weekend and brought and LWRC 5.56 M6A1 Paul Howe edition. And this poly AK. You can shoot pretty much anywhere in the woods in the Wisconsin North. I could hit nothing with the 5.56. Tried adgusting the sights, still nothing. But at 50 and 75 yards I was blasting holes in beer cans with every shot from this poly. I used some Winchester Ammo. Expensive but smooth and clean. Then I shot the Yugo ammo. Shoots straight, maybe a little dirty, but mostly kicked too much, and I had to spend an hour thoroughly cleaning the Poly. It all went bang for 22 cents a bullet. The winchester ammo was about 1.20 a bullet. The Yugo ammo also heated up the barrel something fierce. Had to take breaks-and I only ran about 200 rounds of Yugo. , The yugo also had some orange paint around the primers and that paint ends up flaking in the mag and inside the gun works. Afterwards I hosed the gun inside and out with Windex and pro shot fouling blaster. Then Hoppes 9 and then oiled the hell out of it. To conclude-I simply love this AK. Never had one, never shot one before. Simple to break down, simple to use, simple to clean, accurate as hell and makes a large hole in a beer can. I am sold! |
