Hey guys, I have an opportunity to buy a Chinese AK for $350. It's a friend of a friend, and all he knows it's Chinese, and hasn't been shot in years. It's been sitting in a safe. The owner has 6 AK's, and many more high end guns, and just wants to sell it. My question is; how do you tell when it was made ? I don't know if it's pre ban or post ban. Does it have a date on it ? I'd like to know before I look at it. Thanks........

That's a good price for ANY Norinco AK. After you buy it post pics here and we'll tell you what you bought. If it's got the Thumbhole stock it's either a MAK or NHM which are the "low end" Norincos because they're post ban. You can deban them fairly easily and cheap. That's a good rpive even if it's a post ban. Buy it! ETA: look at the "is this a good deal" thread (a couple threads down fromthis one at of this typing) theres a pic of a milled MAK but even a stamped MAK is worth #$350 all day long. |

When I heard $350, I thought it was a hellava deal. Even though I've been into guns for a long time, I'm not an expert AK guy. I am learning. I have a WASR 10/63 (stop laughing) that's one of the good ones. After some personal touches, I finally like it.
This guy has a Gallil and an FAL that he's selling also. I know it's not a Mac 90. It's a regular AK. I'm just not sure about what that 922 stuff applies to when it comws to AK's. That's why I wanted to see if there was a ....date code ????? I'm hoping it's a pre ban Poly Tech........I can dream...right???? |
|
Sounds like a heck of a good deal. You can figure out the 922 stuff if it even applies after you buy it. Sounds like if it's a post ban he already may have converted it. If it's a pre ban your be a fool not to get it. It will have the model # on the left side of the gun. Post bans will say either MAK or NHM.
Either way buy it and post pics. There are guys on here that will be able to tell you all about it. Look at the "BIG MAK" attack thread for ideas on what the models look ike. Also read the "Third pin hole" thread just to make sure that it's not one of those. BUY IT!! |

Bought it yesterday. It's an original pre ban Norinco type 56S. All matching numbers, with original furniture. The furniture has a little "character", and the blueing is beautiful. Did i steal it for $375 ?? You're kidding right? You should report to the nearest PD right now and turn yourself in for thievery. In other words............. yes you stole it, that's an unheard of price. They usually sell around $1000+ ETA: post pics PLEASE |

you sir are an @$$h0le !!!! LOL that is the find of a lifetime. congrats. better keep that one cause you will never find another for the money. Unless you have a time machine or something. *EDIT* hey, if you do have the time machine can you hook a brother up, i have the $350. come on! |

Whats he want for the FAL?
I saw the FAL, this will make you guys even sicker. $500, but my friend that hooked me up with the AK is buying that. He also has a Galil for $700, and just sold a Yugo underfolder AK for $400. If he only had that 1947 Knucklehead in the barn, well that's a different forum....... |

It's a wood stock. 56S then serial# on left side of trunion On the right side of the receiver it reads CHINA NASI Midland Tx 7.62 Norinco According to Chicom47.com it's pre ban. NASI was the importer Either way, it's a cool 25 + year old gun. On the left side, does it say 56S-2 then the serial number? If so then it is probably a pre ban. If it has 1-56S-2, then it is a post ban. Post some pics.... |
|
On the left side on the trunion it has :
a triangle with 66 inside it.....then 56S......then serial # no dash anything before of after 56S Check out this link, scroll down to the first rifle pic. Mine is just like that, but not as "minty" There is also a pic of a trunion that is like mine, minus the import marks. It also goes into detail about the different models. No dash-wood stock...dash 1-folding stock....dash 2-folding stock w/bakelite furniture.... dash 3-fixed w/bakelite furniture. This is a pretty cool site. Has a lot of info about Chicom AK's. http://chicom47.com/Norinco/Norinco.htm |

Dferg10 - Sweet rifle. Mine came with the same sling. Original?????
Your handguards are nicer. Pistol grip is about the same. I'm debating whether or not to clean the furniture with Murphy's Oil Soap. I'll get pics up soon. It's a pain in the ass to upload to computer, photobucket, then forum. I have to take pics anyway to add to my "in case of theft" CD. |
| Very nice! I would just clean up the wood - maybe just with a damp cloth and a drop of soap and that's it. If the lower handguard is worn dull maybe some tung oil would be all you need. It looks like that is the only possible issue. If you need to refinish wood, report back and there are plenty of people in here who will walk you through the entire strip, sand, stain, finish process. You can also buy original Chinese wood lower handguards at apexguns. Sweet 56S. |

You guys have me confused on Norinco's. I picked up a Norinco underfolder today at a local show fairly cheap I think. It has a milled receiver marked Norinco, Imported by Century, 4 digit serial numbers (Numbers match that I can see) and it's marked MAK90?

Sarge From what I remember, I could be wrong, buy MAK's came in after the initial "slick Willie" ban to side step the rules. They came with a thumbhole stock, 10 rd. mag, no bayonet lug, and no threaded barrel. If yours has been changed from that original set up, 922R applies. Many people AK'd their MAKs after the ban sunsetted. Be careful..........Obama's watching.......
