I have a chance to purchase an excellent condition NDM-86 in .308. It has all the original equipment and looks unfired. Does anyone have any experiences with this rifle that they could share? How is the accuracy compared to the 7.62x54R version? Magazine availability? Any information would be appreciated.

I have been looking for a Dragunov for awhile and this will probably be the closets I will get.

Thanks

the NATO 7.62 will be more accurate than the 7.62x54mmR for sure.

Good find.  There's certainly things to think about with such a purchase:

*  Ensure the firing pin isn't going to be an issue - these rifles have had some issues in the past with such a problem and caused some irreversible/very expensive damages to the rifle.
*  Parts and magazines for the Dragunov SVD / NDM-86 in 7.62x54R are uncommon and hard to come by.  Thankfully, they often can be interchanged when found.  But also quite expensive.  Parts and magazines for the NDM-86 in .308 are nxt to impossible to find should you need a spare.  Magazines for the rifle are very few and far between, as well as very expensive, when they pop up.

Roger what Rayman wrote above.

For many, many years in the 1990s-early 2000s the .308 NDMs were offered for sale with a pair of magazines at very reasonable prices. We suspected at the time this represented a certain mix of trouble that warned many away from buying.

YMMV.

They will always enjoy a certain resale allure.

Post pics. It's been a long time since I've seen one of these.

I think I got some extra magazines from CDNN or whoever it was that sold them last.  They came out with a recall on them because there was no firing pin return spring - as on most military rifles.  My M1 Garand, carbine M1a, aks etc dont have that spring.  Some people used commercial ammo with soft primers and the firing pin was striking the primers prematurely.
