Rayman or another wise guy, did the ChiComs ever produce a milled receiver Type 56-1 Automatic Rifle featuring both folding bayonet and folding butt stock ???
Wouldn't that be an interesting mix ??? Thankis in advance. |

Certainly no one can know everything the Chinese did regarding the Type 56 rifles as they seem to make exceptions to the rule. I've learned over the years that you can't say "never" or "always" regarding the Chinese rifles. Heck, they even made Type 56 underfolders with laminated wooden furniture and with the Romanian-style "pistol grip" lower handguard. So, anything's possible with them.
But as the esteemed member above stated, there hasn't been any variant of the Type 56 with an underfolding buttstock, milled receiver, and underfolding spike bayonet observed as an issued or used weapon by the PLA. There's always a chance for an exception to be found out there in photos, though. Crap. I said "always."

Darn, I thought they made milled spiker underfolders I just checked the Grim Reaper book for reference: "The 56-1 was the Chinese AK with the Soviet pattern underfolding metal stock. The folding stocks were made from steel stampings. Original folding stock models normally did not have the permanent type folding bayonet, but had a lug for attachment of a knife style bayonet." Well I guess like a previous poster said the key word is 'normally' and we all know they could have made some custom pieces or just threw some on in the case of having extra parts lol. I wanted to build a milled spiker underfolder, but now I am apprehensive because I'd like to make a clone that actually existed.

That's definately a major change - and a welcomed one for the eyes!
Also, in the Kalashnikov bayonet world, that bayonet is usually referred to as an "M1947" or "First Model." The "Type I" is actually given to the bayonet style as you'd find with the typical Romanian AKM-style bayonets. |
