Got this today. Neither seller nor I really know who made it (he thinks Norinco).
http://i986.photobucket.com/albums/ae346/poochee3/Norinco/DSC_0195Standarde-mailview.jpg There's no Norinco or Poly Tech logo (last 2 digits of S/N electronically deleted from image). This and the next image are the only engraving on the receiver...except for the "S" and "F" for the selector. http://i986.photobucket.com/albums/ae346/poochee3/Norinco/DSC_0185Standarde-mailview.jpg Made in China and imported by B West. http://i986.photobucket.com/albums/ae346/poochee3/Norinco/DSC_0184Standarde-mailview.jpg Spring-loaded type firing pin (although spring is missing) http://i986.photobucket.com/albums/ae346/poochee3/Norinco/DSC_0188Standarde-mailview.jpg CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHO LIKELY MADE THIS OR PROVIDE OTHER INFORMATION? Thanks to all. |

What a score! Nice rifle!
I'm gathering parts to build a clone of that style of rifle. If you get a chance, could you put those photography skills to work again and take a couple closeups for me? Areas of interest are: barrel face (showing the extractor cut), receiver rails, mag dimple, selector stop and selector markings. Any of those would be much appreciated! |

Yes, I bought it on GB recently. I thought it was one of those that would auction high and the close date approached. The "Buy Now" was reasonable in my opinion, so I avoided what I thought would be the last-minute bidding war. Very glad I did. Since it's not only pre-ban but pre-Norinco and Poly Tech (there's no logo from either), I believe it's relatively unique. It's a semi-collectible since it's a shooter not a virgin, but I don't care. It's a great rifle, bought from a good dealer in AZ at a reasonable price for both parties. I'm one happy camper.
Thanks for all the feedback. |
| The absence of a bayo lug on this supposed preban bothers me, I've never seen a Chicom preban, other than Legends, that did not have a bayo lug. Of course I'm no expert either and I know anything is possible with Chicoms. Did B-West import any Mak 90's? Look close at the spot over tha AKS to make sure something was not scratched out and refinished. Some guys are real talented at this kinda stuff. |

I've got a brother to that gun. Mine has markings though. No bayo lug...

Great score . It's a B-West gun ...they are all like that i.e. not having the usual markings etc... thats what scared other bidders away from jumping on it: Their loss your gain! those red side folders have always been one of my favorites too. You got yourself a great pre-ban. Hang on to it they are very, very, very hard to come by.
B-West gets confusing because of what the company went through when the ban was activated: (got this from another source) "B-West was an importer first in Tucson, than when the ban came in they tried to build there own using kits & their own receivers and were lousy at it. Which is what gave them a bad name. They were an importer first so if is marked B-West Tucson, not Made by B-West which is what you have to do in order to sell a kit assembly with a US receiver, it a chinese made weapon like any other Chinese made weapon." it looks to me like yours is one of the early ones since it has china stamped on the receiver so your good |
| I have one of these rifles, but with a bayonet lug at the gas block. It has no markings on it and it was bought in Arizona in 1985-The rfle came with the original dated receipt. It has no markings on the receiver except for a serial number, and the barrel is stamped Norinco. Any info on this? |

I have the same rifle as you describe with faint stampings of Norinco and IA Saco ,or something close to that which I assume is the importer. |
