| T posted the front of his rifle on another forum and it was, indeed, determined it wouldn't accept the Type II bakelite bayonet because it has the early style. But some have the early style, some have the later AKM style. Probably no real pattern to the Chinese madness of AK constuction. |

The "Type I" is actually what bayonet collecting folk would refer to as the style that the commonly found Romanian bayonets look like (the round, bulbous end handle and metal scabbard with the rubber insulator on it). The "First Model" or "First Type" is the spearpoint one with the wooden or bakelite scales (or grip panels).
You can usually find a Bulgarian "First Model" bayonet with more reddish bakelite scales on eBay, Gunbroker, etc. May have to be patient for one to eventually pop up but there's tons of Bulgarian "First Model" bayonets out there. If you want the bayonet to be Chinese, you'll have to settle for one of the Polytech "First Model" bayonets with the reddish wooden scales. |
