Im am considering trading my Kel-Tec SU-16A for a SA-85M, only problem is I dont like the stock it comes with, and Im wondering if it can be replaced with a traditional ak style stock and pistol grip? Also, the muzzle isnt threaded, but can it be threaded by a gunsmith and accept ak muzzle brakes? Any info is greatly appreciated! Heres a pic of the rifle: http://i13.tinypic.com/6aims8o.jpg |

Do the trade... Yes you can put different furniture on it. The U.S. made NATO or WarPac stuff will fit it fine. I beleive they list a separate set that is for the Hungarian guns. K-VAR should have it if you need it. Full set should run about $100. You will also have to replave the FCG to account for all the parts to keep it legal. You will need to measure the muzzle diameter of the barrel to see if their is enough meat to thread it. Sometimes they were origonally threaded, but then the threads were turned off to be legal at the time. The SA-85's are some of, if not the best made stamped receiver AK's built. It should serve you very well for many years. KyAKGuy |
| That will be a nice gun. My first AK was identical to that, and to this day it gets more range time than any of my other AKs, except maybe the old SAR1 that I sold last year. In my experience about any furniture made for an AKM pattern rifle should work fine on it (with the exception of the Chinese stuff, but why would you want to go that route anyway?). |

I have three of these. They will take any AK furniture - that part is easy. Harder: You have NO provision for a cleaning rod. I replaced the FSB on all of mine. While doing this, I threaded the muzzles (no FSB tower in the way of full threading). Each of my rifles was in the $375 to $450 range... I expect their value has risen, as they are VERY VERY good AKs :) |
