It looks like there are 2 manufacturers. TGIF and someone else. Is the quality the same between them?
Where is the cheapest place to get one? What options are there for trading out the folding stock with something w a better cheek weld? Does it take a normal front hand guard? Any links to a how to on muzzle brake removal for if I sbr it? |
Tennessee Guns International and Century International Arms. Friday's has nothing to do with the AMD-65 It took 3 tries to get a good rifle from TGI. It was well worth it. I cannot comment on the CIA rifle.
Stock options? Krebs Custom makes an adapter. That is it unless you go full gunsmith route and change the rear trunnion. AMD65Tech.com makes a riser for the wire side folder that is already on the AMD. Normal handguard? Not without modifications. The AMD handguard retainer is different. The Hogue Overmold handguard fits without mods. Many of the available quadrail systems work without issue. Muzzle brake removal? Triangle file, hacksaw, dremel, ect. Go slow and careful to cut the welds then screw it off. |

I have AMD-65s from Century/NDS as well as from TGI/FEG. Both are good and represent the most undervalued shooters available, in my opinion, especially when modified to correct the inherrent deficiencies. However, the TGI/FEG product is better made. Both are threaded standard AK (14-1 LH). The AMD65Tech cheek riser is very good and reasonably priced. Easy to remove the standard snake brake with dremmel, but be careful to immediately replace so as to maintain at least 16" permanent barrel length. Handguard (skillet) is easily replaced with minimum fitting (UTG, Midwest Industries, other AK, etc.)
Go for it, have fun, obey the law, stand up for your rights. |

So if it takes multiple tries to get a good one what are the chances of getting a good one first try? What problems have they been having? AMD #1 - Front sight post missing, drum completely stripped with any sign of threads. AMD #2 - Weld for muzzle brake broke after 140rds. Nice rifle otherwise. All matching numbers and pristine kit. Tore ragged holes in target. AMD #3 - Approaching 1K and no signs of breakage. All matching numbers, pristine kit. Zero malfunctions. |
