Wanted to show off my latest project.  Took a plain-Jane Century AMD-65 and modified the features that I dislike with this model:

1 – replaced handguard (a.k.a. skillet) with UTG quadrail, offering heat protection to upper as well as lower, while retaining the 65’s signature two-PG configuration (with a new color, however). This also allowed moving the front PG forward to facilitate using a 30-round mag without banging the PG;
2 – remedied the absence of a cheek weld; and
3 – replaced the neighbor-blaster snake brake with a permanently mounted flash/comp combo (maintaining 16+” barrel length).

Don’t know why these models seem to be near the bottom end of the AK price range and popularity.  This is a sweet and accurate shooter and more fun than most.

How did you go about mounting the factory fore grip to the rail?

It was tricky but doable with a little dremmel work.  Ground off sufficient number of bottom rail bars to provide a flat surface.   Had to use a longer grip screw than factory (Chinese, I think) as well as modify the screw base to nestle snugly in the base of the quadrail.

Ah, I see now. Nice work.
