OK so what the hell is up with this?  I have two SAM7 Carbines.  The first one I've had for a long time.  Had to replace the trigger group with a G2 because it started to double on me when pulling the trigger slowly attempting to sight in.  That fixed that.

Well now look at this.  I bought this rifle about six months ago.  Barely even shot it.  First thing is what is up with the little specs in the picture below?  The rifle came like this NIB.  Is that pitting or just something weird with the finish?

Next up on the plate.  The fricking hammer basically just fell apart.  What in the hell?  Does Arsenal put CRAP trigger groups in their guns?

Seriously considering sending this back to the factory for the fix this time even though I could do the FCG myself.

The picture of the blemishes in the finish look like no big deal.  I have had a couple of milled Arsenal's with less than stellar paint and surface prep.  The broken FCG is screwed up.  Give a call to Arsenal and send them a link to the pic.  I would hope they'd send you a replacement.

Long story short IMHO: Arsenal makes a nice AK, maybe one of the best, but perfect they are not.

IMO, except for the hammer BS, you're expecting too much out of an AK.

looks like the metal had small pits in it before the paint tried unsuccessfully to cover it up.

More likely the paint had bubbles.  Either way, no big deal.

I have never seen a hammer break like that.  WTF....

2 days ago I looked at a Arsenal AK with a solid side folding stock.  When I tried to fold the stock it was a no go.  Sale guy tried nope another sales guy made a attempt nope.  Took two salesman and a gun smith to fold it.  When I was leaving they had it in the back room beating on it.  Has the quality of Arsenal droped? I have always heard good thing about Arsenal.

I looked at a SLR-106 and I couldn't get the sidefolder to close either.

Until someone showed me how to close it. I couldn't figure it out myself.

The stock was very stiff and I know it would loosen up with use.

For the OP, the finish seems normal to me, but the hammer is messed up.

Definitely contact Arsenal about that.

I agree on the bubbles.  A lot of Arsenal Inc. rifles have them.  I think they stir the paint too much.

My old SAM 7S was flawless.  The SA M7 A1 R however had little miniature cuts all throughout the receiver, looked like shit.

I just purchaced a SAM 7 A1R last week and took it to the range on Saturday 7/7/07.

The rifle fired flawlessly and I am proud to own this weapon.

BUT...today , when I reached into the gun case to pull it out, I noticed that there was some play in the muzzle break.

The detent pin below the front sight is lined up and the brake is tighened to the point where the pin is in the notch but there is some "left to right" play in the brake.

I phoned Arsenal and spoke with "Harry" . He said to send the rifle back to the factory and that the turn around time will be a "few days"

He said this was a first as he never heard of the muzzle brake loosing up like that.

It will be shipped out from the store where I purchesed it in Gainesville, Fl tomorrow.

I hope the customer service is good!

Sincerely,
MJ

Arsenal is famous for a great AK coated in less than stellar paint.
That FCG thing is fucked up though. Make 'em fix it, or put a G2 in it and call it a day.

All of my threaded barrel AKs have minimal left to right movement in the muzzle brake.  I have never seen one that locks tight against the front sight block unless you modify your brake to get an extra turn out of it on the threads so that it presses up against the FSB.  I don't think this is a defect that you would send it back to Arsenal for.
