I originally posted this in the AK Discussions area, but thought it might fit better here.

I currently have five Arsenal rifles: SA M-7, SA M-7A1R, SA M-5, SLR-105A1 and a SLR-106. So, that’s two 7.62x39, two 5.56x45, and one 5.45x39. I want to put together a set of emergency repair / replacement kits. I’m looking for suggestions as how to go about it - by rifle model or by caliber? Also, I’m looking for recommendations as to what parts the kits should contain.

Any help would be appreciated.

a spare complete bolt head from K-VAR per rifle, several recoil spring assemblies, several sets of US fire control groups and springs, you'd be set

Seeing that the Bulgarians put 300K rounds through one AK and the Yugoslavians put 89K rounds through another AK then I'd say expected weapon life barring barrel being shot out is an average of 194K rounds till failure. The Bulgarians never had a failure with the rifle they tested and the Yugoslavians had a failed extractor at 89K rounds.

However I would suggest one spare bolt per caliber not per rifle. Also a spare 5.56 barrel since it has the highest velocity rounds, course these are hammer forged barrels which have about twice the life of 4150 chrome lined barrels that the US uses. One bolt return spring might be needed as well. So for your six rifles; one 7.62 bolt, one 5.56 bolt, one 5.45 bolt. One 5.56 barrel. One bolt return spring.

Remember your not talking AR's here, so having to lug two rifles to service the first isn't necessary. Very few weapons on this planet can be found after thirty to forty years of combat use and still function. The AK is one of them.
