Atlantic Firearms SSR 85 C2

Picked it up yesterday, cleaned it, oiled it - mag too.  Cycling rounds (wolf)  through it to make sure it feeds OK and problems arise

1 - unusual amount of jams.  Round just doesn't clear the mag which means I've got to drop the mag to fix the problem

2 - all, and I mean every one, of the rounds is hitting something on the way in, the tips are getting deformed on one side, leaving me some nice jagged bits of copper.  This is even happening to the rounds that leave the mag without a hitch.

Suggestions?

Update- the bullet is actually hitting the metal right below the chamber, which is causing both the jam and the deforming. WTH?

I recommend taking it out and actually firing it. You may not have that problem with the cycling then. Just a thought.

I had the exact same problem with my SSR 85 C2 the first time I took it out.  The problem ended up being the crappy mag that came with it (being my first AK i didn't have any other mags to take with me).  I bought some new mags when I got home (Bulgarian waffles) and its been flawless ever sense.  I don't know your mag situation, but that might be the problem.

my SSR-85C-2 likes FMJ and SP bullets(100% reliable).

It jams right away, when I tried Hollow Point bullets.

I just picked up an synthetic SSR-85C-2 also.

Went to the range with 120 Wolf Miltary Classic Hollowpoints,.... had the same damn problem. Great gun, don't get me wrong, but the stock mag would not feed a single hollowpoint unless it jammed and I released the mag; the bullet went in after I dropped the mag most of the time.

I ended up buying a box of Wolf FMJ from the range and it fed fine, not sure if it was still hitting something and sliding up, but I didnt have any fail to feeds.

Is there any gunsmithing that can smooth out the feed ramp and make it more hollowpoint friendly?

Dremel and a polishing stone can do the trick.
