Is there anything I need to look for/avoid. It looks like Arsenal doesn't even make them anymore.

Thoughts?

Why do you think Arsenal doesn't make them anymore?  They appear to be in stock at K-Var.

It seemed like I couldn't get them to load on the Arsenal website.1

I guess, I was kind of concerned since the gun shop told me that they've had that rifle for about 4 years. Made me think it was crap

I think 5.56 AKs are not a big seller.  Most folks who want 5.56 go for something like an AR15.  AK mags in 5.56 are not as readily available, it seems, so that's probably a turn-off too.

It's as close as I'm willing to get to an AK74 until 7n6 (if it ever) comes back

Started off as a FR that I went a CR format in the 106 flavor.  I've stocked mags and bought the 5.56 since I missed having an AKM and was already stocking 5.56.

Collectors Firearms here in Houston has about 5 or 6 SLR106 models that have been on their shelves for what appears to be years and years. Maybe they are rotating through stock but I don't think so, I could swear these are the same rifles I've been looking at for close to 5 years now

Early production 106's had feed ramp issues which were fixed in later production.

5,56 Ak's are a hard sell since most people want 7,62 or 5,45 instead.
(...resale on  5,56 Ak's is really hard)
Factory mag prices were pretty high last I saw as well

The Arsenal 106CR was a nightmare for many owners....see YouTube.

I just recently picked up a new SLR106-CR made in 2007.  It already had the feedramp fix done at the factory.  I think only the AB 46 ones made in 2006 had the real issues.  Mine has been 100% with both Beryl mags and the Bulgarian waffles.
