The two rifles will be here soon. I want them to feel welcome in the stable, and figure they would like to see enough magazines nearby to keep them warm and snuggly.

Polish Beryl a good economical choice? Have not read bad about them......or, just buck up and get the black Circle 10's inbound?

I've heard they work. I personally like the slab side look of the polys. That being said, I don't think you can go wrong with the Bulgy mags

Thanks. Perhaps I should just get Circle Ten waffles.........

Just exploring other options. Always wanted one of these rifles, just happened upon two of them.

1st choice is the black waffle circle 10's.  Get a few of the black beryl mags as a change of pace.  The circle 10's are more sturdy but both work perfectly.

I've been using both black Beryl mags and Circle 10 mags for over two years now. Both work great. I have not had a single hiccup with the Beryl mags. Buy black and green translucent mags with confidence. White translucent mags are discontinued, according to Montrala, because they kept cracking.

I like the look of Beryl mags better than the waffles. It is reminiscent of the AK-74 mags.

Very nice rifles. Which models did you get? I run the black circle 10 and they have been flawless and are very sturdy and lock up tight with no mag wobble. The beryl mags won't fit as tightly but also function well.

I run the Circle Tens and the Beryl mags in my SL106UR (SBR). Never had a problem with either. The Beryl mags don't have the metal reinforcement on the back tab like the circle 10s. So leave the Beryls to range use and the Circle 10s for HD.

I have both, both work equally well. I'd get the Beryl mags simply because they are cheaper these days.

SLR 106F and SLR106FR are the ones coming.

Thanks for the tips, Gonna buy some of both. Just making sure I was not wasting coin.

Figured a lighter AK could only be beter........gonna find out fer sure.

Are there any bakelite mags that will work in the 106?

Edit-  What about plums with 5.56 followers?  I imagine this doesn't work or I'd see a lot more of them.

there are followers that are made to fit in the 5.45 mags for the 223/556, but I don't think you can fully load them. Someone with experience will chime in.

The rifles showed up......they look better than any other AK I've fingered.

On the downside, all the Beryl mags on RTG are gone. Other sources would be appreciated.

Does anybody make a thread protector cap for the SLR106? Not keen on the factory birdcage, and would like just to ditch it and cover the threads.

? What birdcage? KVAR sells a thread protector that is 24mm.

I guess it is not a birdcage, but a flash suppressor.

Will try with and without to see if I can live without it.

if it's the 74 style, it will make a difference with recoil. Even though these rifles don't have much, it still helps. The only negative is they do produce flash. Try it without 1st, then try it with it on. Shoot a whole mag or 2 with each.

A 4 piece booster/flash hider works well on those and directs the blast forward.. They are a bit heavy but work well...

Beryl mags work great with slr106. Looser than ((10))s. Only do Beryl black mags. Green and clear ones prone to crack. Check gun broker.

Just scooped up ten smoke colored Circle 10 mags for 2 bills.

Doesn't work well.  Case taper (and thus stacked shape) is very different in 5.56 Vs. 5.45
