How does the SLR 95 compare with the newer milled AKs from Arsenal? SAM7R for example.
EDITED: Sorry Mods, I just noticed the pinned thread at top. Have modified topic. |

I own an arsenal SLR-95 and it is a beast....accurate as hell and chews up anything I put in it.....thousands of flawless rounds without a single hiccup to date......Id say jump on that while you can.....offer $200 plus the guns and get one of the baddest AK's made!
heres mine in its current form with a few mods http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s92/chargeron24s/504b496d-3e86-4e59-9d5f-bb364124c057_zpsce93d3dd.jpg |

That's a sweet setup. It's just the $1,400 price tag that's holding me up. He's firm on the price.
It's all stock so thumbhole stock. Once (IF) I go with a new stock / grip, that's another $200 into the gun. I'm sold on the SLR 95, just not sure if it's a $1,600 gun. I'm guessing finding mags right now will be nigh impossible. What you said falls in line with what's I've been reading, seems like one of the more accurate AKs out there. Fun fact is that it's stamped Virgina Beach, which is my hometown. So there's that. |

Well if this has the furniture you want: http://www.k-var.com/shop/SAM7R.html I would go with that its $1300 |

Switching it to get rid of the thumb hole stock is GRAVY,just a matter of drilling 2 holes-sliding in the new lower tang and screwing it together, attach your new us made stock,us pistol grip and us front handguards..you then just need the tapco g2 trigger kit an itll be 922 compliant.
Some of the '95 rifles dont have the lower tang slot milled out though, then its not GRAVY.ironwood designs makes a wood version that is not reliant on a lower tang..pricy but solid. Personally, price is HIGH but theres not too many people moving them.Arsenal is top of the line, you may have another shot at another onefor less $$$ then again.... |

I'm not a collector so that side of the 95 is irrelevant to me. The SAM7R is more in line with what I was originally looking for. Surprised it's in stock. |

He did mention Ironwood being the option so I assume it's not milled out. His personnel view is it should remain stock and part of me agrees but I'm not looking for a collectable. I want a shooter I can abuse. |

It a bulgarian made milled rifle (used to be the slr101s), if you aren't in to collecting the 95 just go with the sam7r. |

The lower tang is not necessary. I did a similar resto to a SA 93 over 10 years ago, & it has been just fine w/o a lower tang. Since the plastic buttstock didn't have a cut out for the tang, & since the receiver wasn't cut for a tang, I thought it's a lot of work for nothing. GARY
