Hello,

I currently have a set of black polymer hand gaurds and have decided to move in a different direction with some classic Bulgarian bakelite.

My question is, how do I remove the gas tube from the upper hand guard? Is it even possible?

I've seen some videos of people doing it on youtube, but they are doing in on wooden hand guards and they look to be a little different than what I have.

It doesn't seem like twisting it out will work, i'm thinking I need to hammer down the bracket closest to the muzzle side of the tube... I just don't know.

Any advice?

process is the same as a wooden one. I put the gas tube in my vise and then twist them on and off. Some are tougher than others. I've used a rubber oil filter wrench in the past for a really tough one. Where are you in TX? All else fails, you could bring it by my place. I'm in Austin.

I take the rear end of the gas tube and grab it with some channel locks, then I grip the handguard with my spare hand and twist it off.
Always works for polymer handguards. Some of the wood ones are tough.

Thanks guys I ended up getting it off with some lubrication and a wrench. Looks awesome!

Where can classic Bulgarian bakelite forearm and handguard be found?

just keep looking on the EE or gunbroker. They pop up from time to time. I prefer the palm swell myself, so I use a Polish Tantal bakelite lower HG and a Bulgy bakelite upper HG. Looks sweet.
