Hi, I recently bought a used Bulgarian SSR85C2 (TGI) ISD Bulgaria.  I was under the impression that most AK47s were chrome lined barreled.  Mine doesn't look like it though.  Inside the bore is pretty dark even though the groove is very visible.  The muzzle end is caked with gun powder residue, I can't tell what's underneath it.  Shot it the other day, 250 rounds through, not a single jam so that's good.   not sure about the accuracy because I wasn't trying to sight it in.

Can someone tell me if there were SSR85C2 AKs that did not have a chrome lined barrel?  Little confused here... Thanks.

TGI puts new U.S. made barrels on their SSR-85C's.

They are not chrome lined.

They are as reliable as the phases of the Moon and one of the best East European imports.

Personal experience.

Ah.. any suggestions on how I can remove the caked layer of stuck powder residue on the muzzle without damaging the barrel?

A good cleaning solvent like Hoppes #9, a rifle cleaning rod, .30 caliber brass brushes, and plenty of elbow grease.

I usually throw in a little cussing for good measure, but that's just me.

Would using the brass brush against the crown of the muzzle damage it?

Nope.

Brass is a lot softer than steel. You'll ruin a ton of brushes before you damage the crown.
