Hi guys

I have a FEG SA-85M in butthole configuration.  I was looking to get the barrel threaded for a flash hider.  I measured the diameter of the barrel and it was just a touch over 1/2 inch.  From what I've read,
that's not enough to have the 14x1 threads put on.  So I was wondering if anyone knew of some alternative ways I could get  a flash hider put on and if they could recommend a good gunsmith to do it.  I can't find one around where I live.

Thanks

When Global Trades started importing the SSR85 C2, the barrels were also turned down. They threaded them the same as an AR15. There are people who make slant breaks to fit these. Don's Guns in Ft. Myers could do this. His work is excellent & has done great work for me.  GARY  N4KVE

Had some de-ban work done on an AK. They turned the barrel down to 1/2x28 which is an AR-15 thread.  Was not able to find AK  slant brakes in 1/2x28  so I broke out the dremel and converted these.

I used a spare A-2 FH for practice (you can see where I nicked it) because I wanted the Phantom FH for actual use. If I were to use the A-2 I would leave it as is, but the phantom needs some type of spacer or crush washer to fill the gap. I was able to get the notches deep enough so the retainer pin would pop out to full extension. It came out better than I expected.

Very nice rainbow6.  Think I might drop you a line and get all the specifics about what would be needed to do.  I to wanted to get a phantom but on mine.

And thanks for the recommendation N4KVE, I'm going to give Don's a call on Monday and see if they can help me.

CNC Warrior makes a few 1/2-28 AK brakes, including a phantom and slant.  They also sell the threading tools to DIY.  See them here.
