Sensing an impending AWB got my gears turning. I bought a SLR-101 during the last ban, had some work done on it. The barrel was shortened and an amd brake permanently attached. Now it has a flash hider permanently attached but it's wearing an AR type collapsable stock.
I've always liked the ACE folder, just afraid to cut that upper tang. The AR type stock works but never looked right for me. Cut the dang tang or not? Not like this is a Legend or a SAM-Classic, just cut the tang. The leave the tang on block is not an option, that is teh ghey. |
| I have recently bought a SLR-95 and I'm going with the cut the tang option. I was initially hesitant as this is a permanent modification, but I figured that it was not coming with the original Arsenal furniture anyway, so just make it how I would like it to be. I've got a Yugo M70 that will remain quite traditional, so I'll have a practical/tactical and a traditional. |

I made the mistake of cutting the tang on one of my AK's and now I regret it. The Ace is very blocky looking even with the tang removed. Even though it locks up very tight and solid, there is nothing like the feel of a fixed stock. An option you might consider is a Romanian wire folder. I wrap the stock with black para cord and it feels much better than the cold steel against your cheek. It locks very solidly and it folds out of the way nicely. It may not look original, but niether does the Ace. AK's to me are like barbie dolls to a little girl, you just wake up one day and want to dress her up a little differently. If you cut the tang you narrow your options to just one dress. |

Romanian wire folders won't work on the slr 95, they are for stamped recievers only.
I use an ace stock w/ an external reciever block, so I did not cut the tang. I prefer it w/ no permanant mods. I like the stock. I would use one of those instead of the internal block if you want the ace stock. That being said, if you like your collapsable ar 15 stock on there, why not leave it there? You know that collapsable stocks are an evil feature just like folding stocks, right? It looks like a pretty nice looking rifle you have there. |
| I thought you had a stamped rifle. Yes, the romanian folder will not fit. But, that rifle looks bad ass the way it is, and that stock looks functional. It reminds me of the Valmet M62 for some reason. Kind of gives me the idea to build a Valmet style club stock. Thanks for the inspiration and enjoy your rifle. |

Thanks for the complements. I do enjoy it plenty, just cost more these days.
I realize my evil features quotient is pretty high as-is and it looks good if you're not opposed to modern AK mods. There's just something about the galil-like-look of the ACE folder setup. The internal reciever block is the only way I'd go and doing so is a fairly permanent chop job. It would look good but an above poster is right, I'd be stuck with "just one dress" to change into. Ace has a couple other nice stocks but nothing that would look like the factory fixed. |

I think they're fugly.
No offense intended to those that have one. I have diverted funds to stock up on mags and ammo for now, the folder idea has been sent to the back burner. I really like the tele-stock on there now just can't really get into the look. I guess for now form will follow function and I'll stick to what works over what I feel would look better. Thanks for the pics and replies. |

I cut the tang on my SLR-101SG and don't regret it one bit. This is the super-short length butt. I configured it to fold to the left because I didn't want the hinge to bump my nose when shooting (I am left handed), and I'm not using optics so I don't mind blocking the side rail. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c340/davemarkowitz/Kalashnikovs/slr101sg-ace-folder.jpg Hi, does the new stock give you proper cheek weld? I'm asking it because the AK has an angled stock. The new stock is straight. The cheek weld might be a little high, and uncomfortable to line-up the sights. Thanks for any feedback. If it doesn't have those problems, I might get a such stock, too. I get a very good cheekweld with the Ace folder. There is some wiggle room when you attach it, i.e, there is some choice in where you mount it in relation to the bore line. With how my rifle is setup the sights line up very naturally for me. |
