I recently picked up a NIB Arsenal M7 Classic and have a question about its bolt carrier.  I noticed that on the right hand side of it (the side with the charging handle) there is a nick in it behind and on the bottom edge of the carrier.

It looks like a piece of the bolt carrier either fell off or got chipped away before it was coated.  I normally don't care about small blemishes like this, but to me, the nick seems rather large and located right along the part of the carrier that rides next to the top of the right side of the receiver.

Has anyone seen something like this on their Arsenal (or other) AKs?

I will try to take a picture tomorrow and post it to show exactly what I am talking about.

Thanks.

mine has that also. I think all the M7's have them, so it's susposed to be there.

My Saiga has this 'nick' on the carrier as well and I've seen others with it too.  Probably a normal thing.

anyone know just what purpose the "nick" serves?

I think the nick may be a flaw in the manufacturing process.

However, thanks everyone for confirmation on the normalcy of the nick.  It is much appreciated.

Serves no purpose. Actually the nick is on both sides of the carrier.
The nick is formed by grinding chamfer on the lower rail of carrier with relatively large grinding wheel.
