If the hammer is down and the safety is on, the bolt will only draw back about 1/2 way to the safety lever. If the hammer is cocked the bolt will draw all the way back, with the charging handle hitting the lever. These actions I know to be correct. Happens the same on my SLR-95 as on my buddies SLR-100H. Difference is that on my SLR-95 as the bolt moves back the safety lever kind of bulges out just a little as the bolt carrier body rides down the inside of the lever. With the hammer cocked, a firm pull on the charging handle can hit the lever, pushing under it and sending the lever out of its detent and up over the dust cover like when you remove a safety lever. This, I assume, is not a correct action. It is also not the fault of the lever as I have switched the levers between the two guns mentioned and the SLR-100H lever has the same problem when installed on the SLR-95. My SLR-95 is an unfired gun. I haven't even made it to the range since recent purchase. Can anybody help here? What's the malfunction? ETA; Now I've switched dust covers between the 2 guns and found that the SLR-100's cover is a hair wider, thereby completely covering the top edge of the safety lever. This prevents the lever from ever continuing upward with the cover in place. Was my dust cover stamped to slightly incorrect dimensions or just slightly bent? What are the chances a correct model replacement would have the same problem? Should I attempt to bend it a little? |
Rifle is fired, selector in up position/safety on, charging handle only goes back halfway to selector, normal. Rifle is cocked, selector in up position, charging handle will pull back to hit selector, normal. The receiver covers are pretty much interchangeable. The SLR-100H used Hungarian parts but a Bulgarian replacement for the smooth cover is available at K-VAR. Minor tweaking of your cover shouldn't hurt it. The rest of your post has me so confused that I don't really know what the problem is. The safety lever on the rifles I have in front of me does not go under the top cover. They butt up against it. With the selector lever in the up position it prohibits you from pulling the charging handle all the way rearward. To fully cock the charging handle rearward, you have to have the selector lever in the down position. If the selector is in the up position and it is hitting the bulge in the bolt carrier directly behind the charging handle then I would believe that your selector lever is slightly bent inward and you can slightly bend it outward. It may be getting caught under the receiver cover when in the up position. Bend the area of the receiver cover slightly inward at the point where the selector may be getting caught under the top cover. The selector should have a stop on the top which butts up against the receiver cover. This is the best I can explain what I think may be occurring. If you post some pictures it may help if you haven't solved the problem. Pictures of a SAR-1 (sold both SLR-100H's) ![]() ![]()

Depending on which fire control group was used by the builder the selector may rub parts of the disconnector with a close tolerance. Some selectors need to be fitted when a different FCG in installed (such as when installing a G2 in some Romanian rifles in place of the Century groups). As the bolt carrier moves back it may cause the disconnector to move against the selector. Not much of a reason to pull the charging handle on the bolt carrier rearward farther than necessary to check the chamber when the selector is on safe. Other than that I don't think your rifle has any major "malfunction". You should take the top cover off and operate the bolt carrier and see if you can determine what is happening. It doesn't happen on my rifles but they have had the selector lever fitted by myself. I no longer have any milled rifles so I can't check them out to see if I can duplicate your problem. I would also take the rifle out and test fire it to see if it functions correctly. |
