When firing, sometimes the bolt stops about half way into chambering a round.

I figured it was a magazine or ammo problem at first; however, I can reproduce the jam without ammo or a mag.

If I pull back on the bolt, and lift upwards as it slides forward, the bolt stops as the back end of the bolt gets to the second set of notches in the receiver.

The first pic shows the location where the jam occurs (spring and cover removed for visual aid).

This next pic (sorry for the blur) highlights which part of the bolt is comming out of the tracks.

Anyone have any suggestions?  It seems like the hammer is forcing the bolt up; others have mentioned dremeling down the hammer some, but I'm not sure it would help me.

All comments/ideas are welcome.
If you need a better description, or better pics, let me know.

Is your hammer axis pivot pin for dead sure seated all the way through and through the right, safety lever side of the receiver?

Put the chicom FCG back in and try it. I bet it will work just fine. And definitely check those axis pins.

That carrier should not be coming out of the rails!  Regardless of what is pushing it up.

Have you mic'd the receiver to see if it is bulged?  Not completely uncommon.  I would suggest you get it looked at by a smith familiar with ak's before shooting any more.  Looks like trouble.

haven't touched the FCG, was thinking about Americanizing it, though.

well, i took the pics upside down, then flipped them in an image editing program - so it may appear mirrored.

"hammer axis pivot pin", pardon my lack of knowledge, but is that the pin the hammer rotates about?  (The pin that goes through the hammer horizontally?)

Sorry for the awkward term.  Yes, the one the hammer rotates about.
