Anybody have any thoughts on the reliability of various AK steel mags ?   I know that is a broad question but I picked up a couple of what I thought were both Chinese steel 30rds a few days ago.  1 runs like a top and one won't feed at all unless charged manually.  Is it common to have problems with these mags?  I know that proper AR mags are critical but I thought this MAK-90 would eat from anything?   Would replacing the follower help any?  I have a bunch of plastic US followers.  Any type of mags I ought to look out for?
Thx

Bad mags are rare for the 47.

Is the ftf from not stripping the round at all from the mag, or other?

On the bad mag it won't strip the round at all.  It trys, but it catches the back of the round and holds the bolt back with the round tip caught on the frame or feed ramp or whatever is there.  When charged manually it feeds fine.   rifle also works with the two other mags I have.

I've never had a bad one.  Have used Romanian and Bulgarian.  Mark the magazine and buy more.  Compare with a known good magazine, not just the feed lips and the follower but also look at the foward and rear locking lugs on the magazine.

May be a burr under the feed lips, grabs the round in a way the return spring can not overcome but your hand can.
