Has anyone put a muzzle brake on a Saiga rifle 7.62 ?  My friend has a Saiga rifle in 7.62 x 39.  The FSB has what looks like a shroud that covers the barrel where the threads should be.  Is the barrel threaded under the shroud ?  Can the FSB be removed (it's not pinned, welded ?) and the barrel be threaded ?  Would he F'up the barrel if he cut the FSB back to expose the barrel ?
Thanx...........

The Saiga FSB is a neutered '74 style base that should have the 24mm threads.  If he got a '74 FSB to replace it, it would be simple.  It could be threaded for 14x1.0L threads, but they will not reach the FSB in it's current location and a '47 FSB has a larger ID than that of the '74.

Would he be able to thread the FSB to 24mm and use a zig zag brake ?  His son is a machinist, and could drill it out so the 30 cal bullets would go through it.

The 24mm threads are integral with the FSB and won't require any machining.  You can also find the appropriate muzzle attachments for these in 7,62 caliber...or you could open up a 5,45 for the 7,62.
