I bought my first AK (CAI AK-74) last week and took her to the range today for her first shoot. Accuracy was good and there was no problems with mags or ammo, but I did notice that rails I added (http://www.veriforcetactical.com/tactical_accessories/951/ ) got real hot. I have rails on my AR and FAL and never noticed them getting hot.
I realize that the rails I got were probably a little on the cheap side.Is the rails getting hot normal for AK's or should I invest in better rails. I can, and do, wear gloves when I shoot, but I am concerned about the light I have mounted on the rail. Thanks for your help. |

If you are shooting fast it will heat up, AKs tend to heat up more than ARs when shooting fast.
If the rail is clamped to the barrel there is not much that you can do, other than get a new rail. Some of the plastic forarms have a heat shield under them to keep them from melting or catching fire. How hot did it get, did your rail covers melt? |
