Well I'm a new proud owner of a romanian FPK/Dragunov I bought her a very nice russian mount for 160$ and a 3-12x56mm zeiss riflescope. She shoots like a charm, no jams, no lockups and has nice tight groups at 300 yards bout 1" or so with old milsurp ammo. I also got a nice retracting swivel bipod for it. I have bout 10k rounds 10 mags and am ready to roll....
Now this is my baby I have spent more money on optics and accessories for her than I did on the rifle. I have only one problem, I took her back home after the shoot so i could clean her out real good after all that corrosive ammo she was eating. Well I go to remove the flashhider so that i can give the barrel a good cleaning and it just wont budge, I push the button down and the falshhider just wont move not even a little. I than inspected it and there is this white crust that almost seems like a glue that is in between the flashhider and the barrel which seems to be making it impossible to remove the flashider. I have tried wd-40 to loosen up the white stuff overnight and it hasent helped.... I REALLY need some help on this because I have ordered a special factory made silencer for this puppy and I need to get the falshhider off.... this is getting very annoying and I'm getting very desperate. I live in the boonies and the closest gunsmith is 4 hours away.... Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated. the white stuff looks almost like calcium desposit you get on the bottom of a water boiler over time.... pure white calcy stuff.... Thanks in advance. |

I would try some stuff called "engine tuner" by johnson marine. It has a very mild acid smell to it and if you keep
soaking for a few days it will eat through the crud. It also makes rubber so slippery you won't believe it. We call it miracle juice. It sits right next to the kroil in my shop. |

I recieved this reply from CAI importers when I put in a support ticket
"The white matter may be bluing residue. If not flushed out, the salts remaining in the seams can crystallize. If this is what it is, it can be flushed out with hot water. The area can then be dried and oiled. If your version is secured by a spring loaded locking pin (there are some small variations), you should be able to loosen it by turning to the right. Try a screwdriver blade in the slot for extra leverage if the part will not come off." I let it sit in boiling water for 5-10 minutes and all the white calcky stuff had dissapeared. Yet when I attempt to take off the flash hider still no avail.... I tried using a flathead screwdriver for leverage as he suggested and it was starting to bend the screw driver..... Well I whent to the garage and got out the handy dandy can of wd-40 and sprayed it inside the flashider arround the barrel and on the outside of the flashider where it contacts the barrel and let it soak for 5 or so minutes. I than tried again with the screwdriver without any luck. I proceeded to putting the rifle in a vice and took a wrench to the top of the flashider(which is nice and flat on two sides... perfect for a wrench) and applied probobly arround 60 lbs of pressure and the thing finally snaped/clicked and budged. I unscrewed it and it seems like the blueing salt left behind had rusted the threads a bit which is why it was almost impossible to unscrew. I cleaned the threads removing all rust and white crusty stuff and applied some more wd-40. The flashider screws on and off effortlessly now! I am very happy :) Now I can finally finish pimping out this rifle! Figured I'd share this with you guys. |
