Was bump firing my 5.56 Norinco 84s today (stupid, I know) while introducing a friend of mine to AK-47's and AR-15's. Rifle suddenly stopped firing. Tried several more rounds, slight indentations noted on all primers. I disassembled the rifle and inspected the hammer spring and firing pin. The firing pin had what looked to be a small piece of brass wrapped around the end of it, jamming the firing pin. After working on it for about 30 minutes, I managed to remove a piece of what looked to be a small copper or brass disc about the same diameter as the firing pin. Firing pin seems to move back and forth freely. I loaded a mag and tried to fire, but symptoms remain the same-no fire with light hammer strikes. The end of the firing pin seems to be the same diameter as the hole it is in, or nearly so...no sharp protrusion like I see on the end of my AR-15 firing pin. Could the tip be broke off? If so, how do I remove and replace? I am fairly new to the AK's, having gotten mine last April. I can field strip it, but that's about it at this point. Thanks in advance for any help.



ETA: Took a closer look this morning, firing pin seemed to be locked in place again. Knocked out the firing pin retaining pin and had to knock out the firing pin with a punch. Firing pin had another piece of brass-copper wrapped around it. After seeing the entire firing pin, I determined it was not broken. Cleaned, applied CLP, reassembled and burned a 30 round mag through it as rapidly as I could pull the trigger. No problems. How in heck did brass get in the bolt with the firing pin???? Very strange as the two pieces I removed both seemed to be too large to get in around the striking end of the pin.
