[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Broken shell removal

In the past when I had a boken sheell the regular shell extractor worked. This time it just extracts like a shell but leaves the broken peace. It doesnt grab it.

Any suggestions

1) Try screwing the broken shell extractor together more. That may give it more 'bite'.

2) Use a metal bristle bore brush from the muzzle. Try twisting the brush when it's at the neck of the broken shell.

What ammo are you using that's doing this?

I tried srewing it in fuurther. I slamded the bolt into tring to drive it into the shell better. The bolt would not grab the rim to eject it so I took a stell rod down the barrel and drove the extracting tool out. I repeated the proscess several times. The shell is still stuck.

1. Get yourself some Cerrosafe.

2. Put a couple of patches just ahead of the chamber to plug the bore.

3. Melt Cerrosafe (melts at 160-ish degrees) and pour into chamber.

4. After it hardens, use a tight cleaning rod down the bore and give it a whack (it may take several good whacks).

5. Your broken shell will pop out embedded in the Cerrosafe casting.

6. You win.

on a 5.45 stuck case, i screwed a #12 sheet metal screw into the base of the case and pried it right out with 2 screwdrivers. this was after destroying a cleaning rod trying to tap it out.
