I just purchased my first AK style rifle, a lancaster, took it apart and now I can't get the cleaning rod back into the rifle. Is there some kind of trick involved? Any help would b greatly appreciated.

Hit the end of it with a rubber mallet or hammer.

AK's should be sold with a hammer as an accessory.

Otherwise put a little screw driver through the hole in the end of the cleaning rod and pull / twist it in.

Thanks guys.

I ended up learning to take the lower hand guard off and noticed that there was a ledge on the bottom of the barrel that wasn't allowing the cleaning rod to line up and slide all the way into position.

I resolved the problem by taking the cleaning rod to a grinder to put a small 45 degree angle at the end of the rod (threaded end). This allowed the end of the rod to pass over the ledge with minimal manipulation (read: screwdriver handle hammering).

I may have ruined the threads, but I'm not that concerned since I have plenty of cleaning gear already. And, apparently you don't even have to clean these things. (Kidding about the not cleaning thing, I clean all of my firearms religiously).

I do think I might duct tape a rubber mallet to the butt stock for future repairs...
