I just bought a Yugo underfold. And was going to clean and lube it before shooting it and was having trouble removing the reicever cover. It doesn't see like I can get the button depressed enough for the cover to slip over it. I was wondering if anyone has had similar problems and had a solution. I am eyeing up the different size hammers I have at the moment.

I have used a screw driver to push the button in farther to get the cover to release.  Push in the button and slap the cover with your palm and it should come off.  A hammer should not be required.

NO HAMMERS.

Simply push HARD on the dismount button, as you pull the top cover back/up off the receiver.

The dismount button is actually the rear of the recoil spring and guide assembly.
If you push a little harder, the entire assembly can be pushed forward and out of it's seat in the rear of the receiver.

Sometimes, these can get stuck in place by the painted finish, grease, or a forward stock screw that's not in far enough.
Simply push hard and the cover WILL come off.

Start hammering or prying on it, and you'll damage the rifle.

It's a Yugo.  Are you depressing the the locking button on the upper right hand corner of the left side of the receiver?  The recoil assembly will not go forward if you don't.  It's a feature that is unique to Yugo AKs and many people overlook it the first time they try to get the cover off.

Edit:  Look at this pic.  It is the little button in the upper right hand corner of the receiver.  The receiver cover is notched out for it.  Depress the button and push the recoil assembly forward.

Exactly.

Push the side button in, then push the recoil assy/top cover retainer foreward, release the side button, release the recoil assy, & lift off top cover.

To put it back on, set the top cover in position, push the little side button & the recoil button will snap back into position.

This set up was also used on the Finnish Valmet rifles, if I remember correctly. I wish all AKs were like this.

Thanks for the info guys. The button on the side is what I was missing. Popped right off. Are there any othe ways that the Yugo is different then the normal AK? I didn't recieve any sort of manual from century when I got the gun, figured that was normal.
