Hey guys,

I've had a WASR 10 since I was 18( my first gun). Have prolly put 10,000 rounds through it w/ no issues. However, the last 7 or 800 rounds, I 've noticed a HUGE increase in recoil. To the point where it's uncomfortable. ie. I'm not too sure whats going on. But do you guys have any ideas before I go and take it into a smith? Let me know if you need more info.

recoil spring wore out and the bolt carrier is slamming into the rear trunnion.

That's a possibility, where could I get a recoil spring?

Also, how tight is the piston( I think that's what it is) supposed to be to the charging handle assembly. It feels a bit loose.

the gas piston is suppose to be a bit loose.

you can get the entire spring assemblies all over the net. just pick your favorite ar15.com dealer and buy

edit: and the charging handle assemly is called the bolt carrier

Check for copper build up in your barrel. Use Hoppes copper remover until the patch comes out clean and than test fire the weapon. I would also replace the recoil spring and put in a recoil buffer.

Well I replaced the return spring and put in a buffer, no luck. however, I compared the gas piston to the one on my tantal, and its noticeably looser. Could this be causing additional recoil. The kick back almost pushes me left and not straight back.

As others have said, the wobblyness of the gas piston has no bearing on this issue.  Depending on where you bought the recoil spring you may just have another used one with 10k rds on it.

To be sure, I'd get one from Wolf Gunsprings, www.gunsprings.com, in either factory or +15% to rule out the recoil spring from the equation.

They're not cheap but when I ordered from them I just searched around till I found some other springs I needed and got them all together.
