| What can I do to tighten it up? |
|
Put it on the barrel, then screw the brake on. You thin the washer until the break will just screw on and lock. You can also use a peel washer, or a crush washer similar to those used on the AR-15 rifles. Another trick is to use a punch to GENTLY upset the last few threads on the brake until the break tightens up on the barrel. You do the BRAKE, NOT the muzzle, since if you screw it up, you haven't ruined the gun. |
I got a bag of 3/8" lock washers with Int. tooth. from Home Depot. The brand I got was Crown Bolt. Now that I look at the bag I see they are made of zinc. I used a dremel to cut out the teeth and test fit. Once I got it right on the ring size I started sanding it down thinner with a dremel again. Test, sand, test sand. Finally it worked. |

FYI all the muzzle brakes on AK's are loose. It's the way the creator intended it. It is considered by some to be blasphemy to tinker with the original designer's intentions. IMO do whatever you want- it really doesn't matter and another thing- the original design isn't perfect/inspired anyways....

Had a nice talk with Mak[check the Barrel Nut Removal post] on this same subject a while back. Take your muzzle break and put a sheet of emory cloth[sandpaper for metal] on somethig flat like a table top, sheet of glass, etc, and sand the end of the break until it will make almost another turn onto the barrel just far enough to almost have to force it to the detent pin. Shoud make a nice tight fit. |
