Hi all.

I was wondering what you think is the best way to temporarily disable the rifle. I have a WASR-10 but it shouldn't matter, the model.
I would just remove the bolt and reassemble the rifle without it but it won't go back together. Any other ideas? My next thought was to take out the firing pin.
Does anyone have a way to get the Bolt Carrier to slide forward without the bolt in place?

I hope I'm being clear.

Thanks.

You could always just remove the hammer and slide the hammer pin back in.  The gun would be disabled and still look complete from the outside.

I just moved and had to transport several rifles "out of box".  I removed the bolt from the bolt carrier, put the carrier back in and everything went back together. I then put all the bolts in a locked pistol box.  sound's like that is what you're trying to do.  not sure why you can't get it.   One of mine was even a WASR, but yeah that doesn't matter.  I'll spell it out:

-check to make sure unloaded, charge handle to get hammer down.
-remove cover
-remove spring
-remove bolt carrier holding bolt
-remove bolt from carrier
-install carrier from back.  ensure carrier is installed on both top rails.  ensure piston slides properly in gas tube.
-install spring
-install cover

so...which step did you skip?

you will need to reach in there with your finger and push the hammer down to get the empty bolt carrier to go all the way forward.

(go ahead, ask me how I know)

Thanks for the advice. I'll try pressing the hammer down. hmm how do you know? Sounds like someone else tried the same thing. If that doesn't work I'll probably remove the hammer.

And yes I already have all my rifles trigger locked and in a safe.

The most effective way to disable an AK is have the medical testing monkeys at Century work on it Just kidding I have/had several SARs and they have been great!

On a serious note, separating parts is a recipe to losing them. Can you just run a cable-lock (a good one) through the open action?

heh. This one seems to be fine. Shoots great. Sanded the wood down and finished it with tung oil and it looks great too. I'm sure there are better AK's out there but this is fine for me (for nowheI have a cable lock for some other rifles. This'll get there soon.

I am still confused...

You have a safe but you are looking to remove parts so that the gun will still not work?  Do you expect that someone will hire you as a scout to protect someone of importance and then use your gun to knock the guy next to them off?

Look, it was a fun movie but REALLY, I want my guns to work if I need to open the safe and grab one for an issue.  Perhaps the Brady Bunch would love us to have all of our guns so they didn't work but I am not interested in the least
