Okay, so my AK's front sight is a little off. Well, not a little - it shoots about four inches to the left and three inches up at 50 yards.

It was fine until I left my friend alone with the sight adjustment tool, which ended up being a learning experience for the both of us. One, don't leave your friends alone with your guns. Two, if your friend leaves you alone with his guns, do not "fix" their sights for them.

So, that aside, here's what I've got to work with:

1) Me

2) The rifle

3) A 50-yard rifle range that doesn't let me place a target any closer than that

4) The damned sight tool

What are my options for zeroing effectively, under those circumstances? Every guide I've read has suggested 25 yards, which would be peachy - because I can actually see the holes at that distance without magnification - but this is a 50-yard range.

So I guess what I'm asking is, what should I be buying/creatively constructing to help zero this sucker at that range?

I'd see if the range you're on has a spotting scope you can borrow while you're zeroing. You could also get some Shoot N C targets to put up, they splash green on black when hit and should work great for the naked eye at 50 yards.

I use em all the time for optics and irons, totally love em.

For a 25 yard zero, you should be about 1.5 inches high (give or take a little) at 50 yards.  I would try turning the sight post counterclockwise in 1/4 turn increments to adjust for elevation.  Then use the sight adjustment tool to push the sight barrel to the left until you bring the strike of the round back in line.

Here is an online ballistic calculator that can help you predict the trajectory.

shoot N Cs  a good spotting scope.......50yrds is good   if POA and POI is right on at 50 you should be about an inch low at 25yrds and right on or half an inch high at 100yrds

read this page on how to adjust your sights.....good luck :)
