Does anyone here have a WASR in .22? What do you think of it? Here's the situation. I have a birthday comming up and want another gun for it. I want something different, not something that everyone has in their safes. Due to increasing ammo prices I want to stay with a caliber that already own, and I need to stay under $400 if possible. I have: S&P M&P 9mm S/A XD 9mm Ruger MKIII .22 Walther PPK/S .380 Hi-Point 9mm Carbine 1891 Argetine Mauser 7.65x53 Mosin M-44 7.62x54R Century Arms AR15 .223 Classic Arms has some .22 WASRs that look interesting, especially since I have been wanting an AK. I'm thinking abou tone of those or a Walther P38/P1. I was curious about the WASR .22 and wanted to find someone that had one. Does anyone have other ideas? Thanks, Adam |
| Wasr .22's take a lot of work to get running right. A lot of polishing surfaces and mag work. Sensitive to the kind of ammo you feed them. Mine likes Federal HVHP, that Walmart sells for $9.88 per 550 thank God!. Look cool with East German furniture and are fun once you get them running right. Not for beginners IMHO. |
| 10/22 all the way...like said the wasr .22 can be a little tricky...and imo they are a little much for something you may or may not have to mess with. I played with one once and it was fine, but know a couple people that had problems. A good ruger 10/22 will do the job and be reliable. |

If you accept 10 rnd mags and 1" at 50yds (same as std 10/22) then by all means enjoy the cool .22 AK. After a few hundred rounds of break in, mine smoothed out on its own and runs fine. Otherwise upgrade the hipoint 9mm to a CZ75, then get a Kadet kit for it. Get a M39 too. |
