So, I've been chewing up 7.62x39 for several months now with both my SKSs and my one AK, a Lancaster AKM, and I like the round. While I do like the SKS, two of them is all I need for the SKS experience. And I like the Lancaster, but I find I'm thinking about another 7.62 gun. Obvously, a second AK is a likely choice, with a distant second possibility being getting a 7.62x39 upper for an AR. The Lanc is a quality gun, but one drawback, probably common to most AKs, is the overall short length which gives both a short pull as well as, for me anyway, a tendency during firing to let my left hand creep forward on that little handguard until it meets up with the searingly hot sling mount. YOWCH! While the pistols, particularly the Krinkov, look interesting, I'll bet the same situation exists. And that Krink is pretty damn pricey, to boot. I'd probably like to go a little cheaper than the Lanc, although that's not a strict requirement. And I'd like to try something that perhaps enjoys some aspect of the AK that I might not necessarily find in the Lancaster. So what might you guys suggest? |

My first AK was a fixed stock Polytech. My second was a Norinco underfolder. Added a little variety to the collection. However, you won't find a folder for less than your Lancaster. In fact, you won't find anything other than a WASR for that price unless you get a screaming deal on a nice used rifle. Regarding the issue on your Lancaster, you can always get a NATO length buttstock to add ~1.5" to the LOP. |

I also ordered a Lancaster AK (although I got the AK-47T version) and even before it arrived I ordered a Saiga 7.62x39. I'm about half way through the conversion from sporter to AK now. The rifle was a great value - $266 shipped from R&R Arms - and I've been finding some decent deals on the conversion/compliance parts. I probably spent more than I needed to on the furniture, but I wanted an ACE sidefolder and I went with a CAA collapsible stock. The gunsmithing portion is pretty easy, due in part to some great tutorials, like this one. I'd recommend checking into it...a quality rifle, a decent price and a little "hands on" practice. Jim |
