Why don't these companies that sell ak's return emails and phone messages?  There are 3 companies that I have either left a phone message or sent emails and none of them have gotten back with me.  Do they not need new customers or is the overall customer sevice that bad with gun dealers? I have $600.00 that I am ready to spend, but I guess they don't want my money.

At the risk of offending some of the fine dealers that frequent these forums, I think “gun dealer” and “customer service” is too often an oxymoron.

While there are some places that offer outstanding customer service (Aim Surplus and Ohio Rapid Fire come to mind, as I’ve recently placed orders with both and had great experiences), I’ve also dealt with way too many dealers who didn’t seem to care that I had money burning a hole in my pocket, and that I would gladly part with that money…if they would simply call or email me after I contacted them.

Why is this?  I dunno.  Part of it is a simple lack of understanding of just how important customer service really is.  Some of the dealers out there (and again, I don’t mean to offend any particular dealer or dealers in general) simply aren’t sophisticated operators, and have no clue that they should even care about customer service.  And some dealers are just really, really busy, and aren’t staffed to provide good customer service.

But, I don’t blame dealers entirely.  I would also bet that many dealers get a lot of “tire kickers” who have no intention of buying anything, but who want a gazillion questions answered and/or want to chat their ears off.  I’m not a dealer myself, but when I recently sold a few rifles in my local paper, I was shocked (and somewhat annoyed) at how many calls I got from people who weren’t interested in buying my rifles, but who just wanted to chat about them!  If dealers have to deal with people like that on a regular basis, I don’t blame some of them for being slow to get back to people.

If I were you, and if you have the time, let some of those dealers know via email that they lost a sale because they didn’t contact you back.  It won’t do you any good of course, but it might get some of them to think about this issue a bit more than perhaps they do.

it must be individual dealers.  i went to a gun store here in town and asked for a springfield xd .45 w/night sights(i know this is the AK forum).  he said he was too busy to look up a price but took my number and said he would call back.  i immediately knew where i WOULD NOT be buying from.  these guys wont even do business unless you are looking to spend +1000 dollars on a rifle.  so i went to a pawn shop who also deals in NIB guns.  found great price and friendly salesman, AND it was in stock.  so i sent my brother to buy from them too.  the moral of the story is, a friendly salesman made +1000 dollars on selling two handguns, just becasue of his attitude.

edit:  dealer #1 never called back and its 3 months later, he isnt THAT busy!

I think it may be from lead poisoning...seriously though, I agree with Stevie on the oxymoron portion of things.  The funny thing is that, we (the royal we), just want a simple answer to a question...same as if you were in WALMART of all places.  You know things are bad when Walmart offers better customer service than our dealer friends.  Now not all dealers are bad, just 99% of them.  I've just come to expect sh*t customer service and if I get anything else I'm impressed.  It seems that gun people know a lot about guns but little about selling...maybe this is why places like Global Trades go the way they do.  I dunno, just some thoughts.

This may upset some folks @ this AK forum, but wtf - here goes...Every email I sent to a dealer about purchasing an AR (and trust me I sent ALOT of emails with questions) all were replied to in 24 hours or less...Maybe these guys selling AR's want our hard earned $$$ more than the guys selling AK's
