I have mentioned it before but it bears mentioning again. I live in a VERY rural area of Pennsylvania. That being said over the past year or so the ATF has had their jackboots running up and down this and the next valley over. I would discount the stories I have heard from FFLs as anywhere from embellished to outright BS if I had not seen almost identical stories from other parts of the country on various websites.

As a consumer this effects me because it gets more and more difficult to find a semi local FFL to do transfers with. As an American its seems completely over the top. This isn't a high crime rate area. As far as I know we are not supplying the guns to those areas that do see a whole lot of criminal activity. The Amish have not started a "drive by" war with the Mennonites. Most of the FFL holders (sporting goods or gunsmiths) do not deal in tactical weaponry at all. They carry hunting weapons. I'm the odd duck that orders or wins bids on auctions of tactical stuff they have never seen.

My usual FFL is on hiatus until the ATF decides what to do about him. He directed me to a gunsmith which I met with yesterday. He had had his own problems last spring with the ATF. I asked him what he thought the goal was. He thought a long time and finally said the ATF wants the FFL holders in a "cowed" state.

I then asked what I thought was a logical question. "Don't you guys have some sort of national organization to monitor or help one another out? Even sort of police yourselves from a few bad apples?" He said there was nothing he knew of but it might be a good idea. I mean a lot of shops are small part time operations. They don't have the money to file a lawsuit after they are found innocent and have their damaged stock returned. Collectively though it would seem you could get a sort of "ATF invasion gameplan" and possibly lawyers that were knowledgable in this particular area.

I am not an FFL. So I am asking if there is a national organization I could inform the FFLs I know about or if those of you that hold FFLs think there would be any merit in such an organization?

Remember guys its going to be a hell of a lot harder to buy and sell if they run all the FFLs off. I really don't want to have to start shopping 5 hours away for my firearms because I can't look at something in a shop or even order something from an auction or an online store.

Cheers,
