I was reading on different thread that the Vepr AK's are not military configuration. I was wondering what the difference is, what makes an AK military config? Is it better or worse, I figure most likely worse. can it be changed to military configuration and at about what cost. Which would be better to change to a military config, a Vepr or Saiga, or any other. Which is more accurate? In fact which top 3 AK's in accuracy, in the $1000 range? I'm looking for an AK that is accurate at 100 yards and was told Vepr's are. All 7.62x39, but wondering about others.

Also I have seen some pictures of MAK 90's were the action/bolt assembly does not have a finish on it. It looks like it’s a chrome or just buffed steal. Why is that? It looks cool but is it any better than a finished one? Im going to try and post a pic of one or a link to one(if I mess up its because I have never done it before). Thanks

I am guessing by military configuration you mean having standard handguards, pistol grip and buttstock. The VEPR was never a military rifle to begin with, they are kinda a sporty version of an AK. Very well made from what I hear. Most people that have them love em.

If you are looking for something to convert to "military" configuration, a saiga would be more correct in my opion. However, you can buy a rifle built from a imported parts kit and wala, military configuration. Rifles built from kits are generally just semi auto copies of the original select fire rifle.

On the bolt carrier, all the Chinese rifles I have had my hands on had a bare metal bolt carrier. I like the way they look but I have also seen many of them with rust on them from guys not taking care of their weapons.

So there is no real difference other than pistol grip, buttstock and handgaurds?

Somebody said something about the trigger being different, is that true?

Also I seen a MAK 90 at a pawnshop that had a finished bolt assembly and thought that was normal, wish I would have picked it up, they only wanted 350.00 for it. realy the only reason I didn't buy it was because the action sounded funny.

Well, there is a little more to it than that. Bayonet lug, muzzel device and other what nots.

Ya, the saigs do need the FCG (trigger) moved foward to its original location. The saigs are "sproterized (soccer momed) to make them a legal to import "sporting" firearm. It does take some work.

Are you new to the AK platform? If so and you want a tradional military type AK, go with a kit built rifle. Either buy everything yourself and have on of us builders build it or buy one of the many prebuilt rifles available.

As far as the action sounding funny, AKs generally are loud, clanky beasts.

I'm not real new I already have one but I want another, a better one. I wont one that can shoot good groups at 100 yards. Everyone seems to keep saying Vepr's. Can I just have the berral threaded on the Vepr to put a muzzle break on it? I dont care about bayo lug. Are the Vepr's sporterized?  Do the Vepr's have a sporterized trigger on them? I wouldn't mind a build but from my experiance they are not that accurate, at least enouph to get good groups(around 2 inches) at a hundred yards. At least the parts kits/builds around the same price as a Vepr. Do you have any Ideas? thanks.

Look in the "Russian" section here. There are some good VEPR pics and such in there. Those guys will be able to help more than me but if you are wanting a VEPR, get one. From what I hear you wont be disapointed.
