I am fairly new to AKs , do most of the rifles have a fair amount of play in the way magizines lock up? Thanks in advance.

Play back to front or side to side?
Side to side play doesn't seem to matter, in my experience.
I don't know about back to front. I've never seen that.

I don't think you'll have any problem with that.

Mine has noticable play side to side (Romanian WASR-10).  However, I have never had a fail to feed issue with it.  I don't think it matters to function.  That being said, I would prefer a AK that does not have side to side play in the magazine well; and there are many kinds that do not have play.

If you want to fix some of that side to side wobble in a WASR, add a little filler in just above the magwell.  I used JB weld but would of prefered to weld.  Once you get some filler in there grind it down to fit your mags.  Problem solved.
