thanks for all the replies guys!!! That was fast!!! The rest of the bore look great, its 100% new, never been shot. another reason i didn't see the nick was that it was covered in its org grease, i only saw it after i took it home and cleaned it. Other then the barrel/crown issue the rifle look great. the action is super smooth, as good as some of the milled sam7's if not better. Its got the org ak romy receiver w/ dimples, really nice lam wood stock and hand guards (thumb hole stock) as good if not better then the brand new polish i got off EE. Other then the barrel/crown issue, Overall this is the best romy 74 i have seen so far. Its got a welded on muzzle nut with a fully working plunger, now i am wondering if the barrel is threaded or not... |

The Romanian FSB should fit your Romanian 5.45x39 rifle, but then you need a 22x1.5mm Romanian AK74 compensator which is available at AK-103.com / AKUSA. Notice the threads are different than the Bulgarian muzzle devices. Does your rifle have a muzzle nut welded on (it appears so in the picture). The crown does not seem to be damaged where it will affect accuracy any. If it has a muzzle nut welded on you would need to remove it and then the defect can most likely be polished out with an abrasive ball attachment (though I wouldn't trust myself to do it that way). I have seen guides on doing it other ways but I haven't looked at them in a long time. Just off the top of my head I believe they utilized something along the lines of valve lapping compound and a marble. I may be wrong so you should do a search for the correct directions if you intend to try it. If you get an AK-74 FSB and intend to have a gunsmith install it they could give you better advice. |
I am thinking about sending the rifle to AKUSA to have a romy front sight base installed and i believe they have a romy 74 break that they produce...(only thing, i can't stand the crome on the brake...on the inside, good, the the whole brake ? ) hopefully it wouldn't affect the way it shoots, if it does hope they can repair the dent, i don't think i can polish it out, the dent is pretty deep (i am guessing around 1mm), they might have to grind down the barrel a bit and re crown it over.... going to try to email them to get a price on all this work, do any of you guys had any work done at ak usa? thanks for all the inputs guys ps......how many US parts do i need to get rid of the thumb hole stock, five or six? |

Just to clarify: The AK-USA brake is NOT chromed on the outside, only on the inside. The picture on their website shows the brake before being blued. EDIT: I'd like to second the suggestion to shoot it before changing anything. That way you have a starting reference point for things like accuracy. i.e. "Was the rifle always this inaccurate, or did I do something..." etc. |

Thanks for the replies guys! The pic I posted was the BEST grouping of course! I do get flyers in other groupings (but it could just be me, shooter error ) I shot the rifle at a 25 yard indoor range, the rifle is not really shot off-handed, its "semi-rested" on a table (no sand bags...etc).The grouping seems to get tighter after about 100 rounds or so (I know, it sounds weird most of my ak's grouping open up as it gets hotter, but I did shot this rifle slow, maybe it just needed to be broken in) The usual grouping I got is about 2 inches not counting the flyers (counting the flyers it would average 2-3 inch groupings). I guess it is not too bad for the first break-in of this rifle. I found this rifle at the local gun show for $300 bucks brand new! Other then the dings near the muzzle, I am really impressed at the workmanship and quality of this rifle. Fitment of parts and the overall smoothness of the action are just as good if not better than my SLR105A1. This rifle really changed the way I look at Romanian rifles. |
