I really want a 223 AK47.  I shot my friends Norinco 84S today & I was fucking impressed! Who has 223 AK47s in stock? And    whats the most resonable priced AK47 223 rifle out there?

www.atlanticfirearms.com

They have .223 AK. It takes bulgarian .223 magazine available at k-var.com or AK EE forum here.

Blaine (the owner) is a great guy to deal with.

Wow, you are a genius new guy.

Thanks for the brilliant addition to this thread.

Now back to the original question, there's the offering from Atlantic based on the converted Saiga. There are other custom Saiga conversion as well, from low-end (Hesse) to very high-end (Krebs and AK-USA)
There's the SA-M5
the Norinco offering
the SAR-3
the WASR-3

I think he is looking for a rifle, not a toy.

look for a Arsenal SA-M5

they cost a bit more but they are well worth the money,.milled reciver,..the action is silky smooth,.and the recoil is very easy to deal with.

all or the other rifles mentioned are good to very good,..if i was trying to save a few bucks i would look at the Romanian rifles.

Why would you buy a rifle you have to convert to something else?

If you want the best AK on the market (it'll cost a bit more) but you get what you pay for, I have a SA M5G (no ban) Arsenal 223/5.56 all black with the nato length stock unfired, NIB w/all paperwork, sling, oiler, cleaning kit & manual I'm looking to sell. Pm me & we'll see what we can do.

Can you put a folding stock on these guns?
9/3/2006 2:53:59 PM EDT
[#13]
I believe you can. I think you would have to buy the folding block section that connects to the rear of the receiver & then you can attach a folder to that. I've seen it done on 7.62's not sure why it can't be done on a 223/5.56. Some one more knowledgable than me on gunsmithing might want to elaborate on this.

Hi All...I'm new here. Been lurking and looking for a while.
This is my 1st post.
This thread caught my attention, as I just purchased this (well one of them....he has several) on Gunbroker:  www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=55657539
My 1st AK,..... a Custom Built 223 Yugo Underfolder.
It will arrive tomorrow at the FFL holder's shop.
Any opinions on my purchase???
The seller purchased 30+ of the kits, built the rifles, and has nearly sold out. He has 2 listed on GB eight now.

Thats a beauty for sure.......... If it is as accurate shooter as mine you will be a happy man.....

The Yugo .223 is a nice kit.  You could build one yourself for around $525.  They will shoot about 2 MOA.  Keep in mind the Yugo is a heavier gun but, it has some added features.

Thanks!   I'll let y'all know how I like it after it arrives.
I suppose I could have built one, however , lately I've had more money than time!
(Seems like a good problem to have......until you have it.)
Today seems like Christmas Eve when I was a kid....I can't wait for tomorrow!

Whats the deal on the YUGO adjustable gas system...I did not know that AKs had these.

Why would you buy a rifle you have to convert to something else?

UH? Because when you get done you can have a nice rifle for $500 instead of $700 or $800 price range and the Saigas quality rifles. I can get mags for mine for $15 brand new all day long instead of $30.

Guys,

What's involved in converting the Saiga?

What are the mag options, where do you get them, are they reliable and are they easy to get?   Thanks!!

Converting is easy if you just take your time with the feed ramp on the .223. Several feed ramp designs that work are posted in the Russian section in a sticky. So far mine is 100% reliable. All kinds of mags can be used. Bulgarian, 74 mags, Galil Orlite mags. I made my follower for the Galil mags and then converted some 74 mags for my saiga. I do not like grinding on rivets to make mags fit (Aircraft mech) so I shaped my mags to fit but some guys take some material off a rivet and have no problems. Converting the handgaurds to original takes more work and I like the factory handgaurd so I left it alone.

I'm really mechanically challenged, but I was able to do a Saiga conversion.  If I can do it, anyone here can do it.

Great link...so what is the current going rate for a Sagia? (I am sure that it is not still the $189 mentioned in 2003).

Well...with about 17K and a little luck(finding one) you could get a transferable, full auto Polytech AKS223 RPK. Probably not "reasonably priced", but it is the ULTIMATE 223 AK.

Dude needs to update his links. RPB no longer has a website. EAA only lists pistol on their website. Good link otherwise.

$259.00 plus shipping and FFL transfer which probably puts them close to $300.00 unless you have a stocking dealer near you who gives you a good deal.   The 7.62x39 ones are supposed to have the dimpled receivers this weekend.  I have a dealer that has good prices on them if he can make the show I am going to this weekend.

They aren't local to me though.  The local ones are anywhere from $259.00 to $350.00.
.308's are $400.00 locally.
