Ok, so after looking at my wasr-10, this is on the end of the barrel, and I'm almost positive its not threaded underneath because the nut is welded on. Can I use pin on style barrel devices? The nut kind of looks like you would slip something over it because of it having those little straight cuts on the side, and then turn it straight and it would click in place with the retaining pin (my gun has one).

Check out the pin on break at the bottom of this page. Something like that is what I would imagine might work....

Thanks,
Nick

All wasr nuts are welded on, the GP models pretty much all have threads, other (earlier) models its hit or miss.
My Wasr-10/63 GP '87 had threads just had to cut the weld holding the nut on.

Even if you did get a pin on you would have to cut off the nut, they do not fit over the nut like you described. And for the trouble you might as well do it right and rent a threading kit and thread it yourself.

The newer WASR's may not be threaded with a 14x1 LH thread.  I've heard that Century may use another thread size for some unknown reason. The older ones were pressed on and welded.

The pin on AK-74 brakes for the most part are designed for Chinese rifles(Tapco part) and will not work on Romanian rifles without modification which can ruin the brake if done incorrectly. Ask me how I can know this.

Your retaining pin may not be an actual plunger pin with spring.  It may just be some solid dowel rod jammed in there before the weld.  The only way to know for sure is to remove the nut and see if the detent pin will depress when pushed in.

After removing the pressed on welded nut, you should be able to thread the barrel and install the correct parts.  Search wjm on the equipment exchange as he rents a threading kit if you need it.

The nut doesn't depress the pin, so I can push it in freely, its a working detent pin alright, spring and everything!

If yours is like mine, then you can get a Dremel tool and just cut through the weld and unscrew the nut. Both of my WASR's had 14x1 LH threads underneath. Easy job to do.
