Gents, You may recall I have been AK obsessed for the past week or so. I ended up with a Sam7-A1r and a Vector Classic for the old man. I see that Vector has come out with a milled receiver - but have not read or heard anything about these. Blaine at Atlantic has said they are pretty nice - just wanted to see if anyone else had heard anything. Thanks! EBK |
Almost as good a question is: Where are the kits coming from and what kind of shape are they in? |

Yo, guys. I have one of these coming in and have spent couple days talking with Vector, taking detailed notes, so that I can post a comprehensive (as time allows, anyways) review. What I was told is that these are Arsenal of Bulgaria original receivers that were found in a small shop in Bulgaria and purchased/imported by the Vector folks. Luke at Vector says they are virgin bulgarian receivers, and that the major parts kits are new/old stock kazanlak bulgarian (some reportedly have russian) military produced type III ak47 parts, found in the same warehouse as the receivers. The barrels are indicated to be the heavy hammer forged chrome lined. There were only 200 of these receivers found over there, so there will only be 200 of these rifles produced. Vector has made 7 underfolders on these to gauge market interest. They are very aware that people want a lot for $850 (or so) ak. My hopes are high right now. It's coming in the next week or two and I'll be glad to review it and post what info I have if anyone is interested. This is a pic of what is supposed to be headed my way... http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i31/thermocafe/ssr85c2%20with%20wood/pix2120703984.jpg |

Forgot to point out, they have many more barrels and parts than receivers, so they are picking the creme de la creme of parts and putting those on these receivers. I took a chance on one because I was impressed at how much Vector was concerned to get the best quality and parts to the customer willing to pay $850 (~$1100 for underfolders) for one of these ak47s. The five year warranty don't hurt, either. hance One thing I like about these is that the firing pin is supposedly the old flat type and is NOT spring loaded, unlike the previous two mentioned type III clones. The fire control group, muzzle nut, and the other parts to make "not more than 10 parts of foreign production" are on this rifle. I will have to dig out my notes for specifics. |
