a friend and i were out shooting at bowling pins, we only took two rifles with us, a 7.62x39, and a .300 weatherby mag.
at the end of the day, i thought it would be fun to cut the plasic off one of the pins and see if there was anything in it.  mostly, i found little shredded bits of jacket and lead, i did find three "intact" bullets.  as im sure you guessed, they were all 7.62.   now the question.   2 of the projectiles were in good shape, save for the tail end looked like it had been squished with plyers.  they were steel cased american fmj.  the other one, which was a hp wolf, looked like the plyers pulled and stretched as they squished.  why would a 7.62 be bent into almost a 90 degree angle? and why would only the ass end be smashed? was this just from the wood?

ps. sorry ahead of time if this is a stuid question.

What kind of rifle was the 7.62X39? Maybe the rounds were keyholing and thats why the ass end was the smashed part?

Maybe because the round tumbled inside the pin, and when it was sideways it became squished.
